Maximum bake disk run-out.

Featured Replies

Maximum bake disk run-out.

Checked my front disks as I am getting steering vibration on braking.

Measured run out is 0.07mm

Haynes is quoting max of 0.05mm

However a plenty online sources and old manuals I have (not Octavia admittedly) give 0.1mm as a max.

I am reluctant to rush into new disks and pads as I am not convinced that 0.07mm is enough to be causing a problem.

Car: Octavia II 1.9 PD.

Has new front tyres newly balanced.

Half worn rears – newly balanced.

No noise or excessive play from wheel bearings.

Vibration is at its worst when braking reasonably firmly from 70 down to 40 mph.

I can’t find play in track rod ends or ball joints.

Tyre centre checked same when fitting tyres and said they were OK.

Any experience/wisdom welcome.

Thanks.

long shot dept'------have you been on holiday or not used the car for 7-14 days during the winter months(salt on roads)   it may be a patch of corrosion under where the pads were 2-3 thou is enough had exactly the problem on a C-class with nearly new Brembo's   took ages to sort with new discs in the end (appears as a blue haze in the right light )

I would try some "enthusiastic" braking on a suitable road before looking to change the discs and pads.
