Front Blanking Plates

Featured Replies

Washing the Octavia vRS this w/e has brought up some interesting observations.

1) Still impressed with the profile of the hatch, am now thinking of getting her lowered.

2) Quite irritated by the way the black magic paintwork shows up the dirt (as an aside was going to go silver, but silver sports cars have a real cache with the "bling bling" culture here..)

3) Just in front of the brakes, there are two "brake cooling" ducts. However the drivers side one is compleatly open, whilst the passengers side one is (aprt form a very small hole) closed...

Any ideas why this should be?

Could I shoudl I get it, the passenger side blanking plate, removed, and is it easy?

Cheers

Do you mean the two grilles low down in the front bumper, below the headlights?

They aren't there for brake cooling - there are no holes in the plastc wheelarch liners to let the air through (but see below).

The passenger side (closed) one is a removable cover over the towing eye, just to make it look tidy. The open one on the driver's side is actually the air intake for the intercooler - if you get up close and look through the grille, you can see the intercooler body. Trouble is, the air can't really flow freely through the intercooler because on the other side is the wheelarch liner - so it has to flow up into the engine compartment instead.

Paul (ffelan) has cut a hole in the wheelarch liner and covered in with mesh to improve airflow through the intercooler - see this thread.

Not quite right, Mike - the towing hook is behind the offside vent. See this thread for a stunning 'blue' picture!

Oops! :silly: I just sort of assumed it would be on the nearside. Still, best to find out now, not when (if) I actually need it :)

Is there anything behind the nearside grille?

There's nothing behind the bottom LHS grill . I've drilled out the mesh to increase the air flow for my CAI. This is also the side that the stock airbox uses.

The lower grills are very easy to remove......just pull.

There is a faq (detailed by Nick) on how to put a vent in the RHS arch liner to improve the air throughput for the intercooler.

Cheers.

Adrian.

I'm waiting patiently for a TT to come in that needs a new wheel arch liner -- then I can use that to give me a vent for the intercooler.

Might look at drilling the N/S vent on mine --- now where's that bloody Dremmel when you need it

Just order the replacement grills from Butts. From what I've seen they quite look the part too.

As regards to your first point about lowering, is it me or does the vrs have shorter springs on the front than the back?

I think it's just an optical illusion

Dave,

although it will probably look standard.......you don't need a TT arch vent.

Get yourself down to Homebase and get an aluminium house vent. Method of fitting is exactly the same.

Check out "My Mods" thread for pic.

Adrian.

Or click below for another set .... different approach but same result ...

Nick,

regarding momentary power loss........has your car been to the garage yet?

If so did they find anything wrong?

Adrian.

Having seen Adrian's mod, I can vouch for the fact that it looks the business. (PS - have a photo but can't post it yet. Any sign of Briskoda webspace becoming available again?)

Cheers Denis. Good holiday?

Original thread now updated - I haven't been able to post for a few days due to nthell. I did type in an update last week but it disappeared into the ether.
