Octy II FL vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Having a owned a few Fabia's - currently the vRS, am now needing something bigger. The Octy vRS would tick plenty of boxes.

I'm thinking of a diesel this time around as mileage is around 19k a year and maybe a little more going forward.

Maybe looking at age / mileage 2-3 years old, 30k - 40k. Just depends on answers to this question:-

Are there things to look out for in terms of common faults (familiar with a few items from this forum) but also wondering about expensive items that could catch me out by needing replacement at the next service?

Hope this makes sense? Depending on the answer it maybe we go higher mileage / older for example if it means getting a car where such parts have been replaced. Basing diesel choice on keeping for at least 2 years and whilst the car may cost more it will hopefully not depreciate as much as a petrol doing same mileage. And yes, have read lots in terms of running costs, just that I am thinking diesel solely for when selling it on with at least 40k more on it than when purchased.

Any input appreciated.

Thanks

You'll be looking at a CR engined car then.....not alot major goes wrong. Youd be unlucky to suffer a serious DPF issue with any CR version but occasionally the pressure sensor can fail and make it look like its knackered....cheap fix though.

Also occasionally (and i dont think its as bigger problem as some would lead you to believe) they can suffer DMF issues, new clutch and flywheel required if so and can be a bit expensive at a main dealer; probably not so bad at a good independants.

Good cars.....my only personal criticism....can hardly accuse them of being slow but from experience of owning a less than year old CR DSG it doesnt seem to go as well as its output figures suggest. Short gearing, power band and being quite heavy probably do not help matters.

Great motorway car though and driven half sensibly you should see late 40's early 50's. Personally would recommend the manual over DSG, less to potentially go wrong, better mpg, less tax and arguably more fun to drive. Im selling my DSG as have never really warmed to it, DSG mates better with the petrols.

I'm also looking for one of these too, same things you want but an estate. Finding a good one is hard as owners don't let them go. Definitely need to get one soon though.

Some of the earlier CRs had a batch of faulty sensors but as far as the engine is concerned with that sort of milage it'll just be run in. DPF issues are vastly exagerated by people who don't own one and the usual test at low revs putting your foot down and checking for any shudder will test the DMF. TBH its not a 'hot hatch' but it is a very capable car that compared to the TSI obviously isn't as quick but does a good job and is a lot cheaper to run especially with the sort of miles you'll be doing and the diesel is well suited to motorway cruising. Doing those miles Xenons would be good to have. Looks like I'll be lucky to get 20k from my front tyres though....good luck

I own a 2010 (59) Octy FL TDI and have ran it since new.

Originally it was my company car but I've now bought it off the lease company.

155,000 miles on the clock and it still drives perfect. It has never wanted anything bar service parts and tyres (except a clutch at 130k).

I honestly cant fault it.

Trust me, there will be plenty to choose from, just take a look at the mkiii forum and you'll see plenty of people trading in mkii vRS'

I recently bagged myself a 2012 VRS in race blue from a fellow briskodian. Coming from a superb elegance, my company car  since Nov 2009, I decided to opt out and use my car allowance to fund a car.

I was worried that I may miss the little extras that the superb had, but the spec of my VRS nearly matches it. I managed to get one with adaptive xenons, MFSW (which was a retrofit by the previous owner). F&R parking sensors, columbus sat nav and BT (again retrofitted), upgraded alacantara interior, auto lights and dimming mirrors, headlight washers,

The car had 32700 miles on it as is factory warrantied until March 2015.

I do 25k annually so needed a diesel, as I am now paying for my fuel, but did consider a DSG, but the extra costs - tax, fuel, servicing etc put me off. I also have a colleague with the same DSG in an Audi which needs replacing after just 4yrs 100k @ stupendous money from Audi. The decision to go manual was a no brainer!

Having had the VRS for less than a week, I must say I actually look forward to driving it, unlike my superb. It drives very well although the current weather is somewhat taming my right foot!

I filled it up on Saturday last week and since then have done 390 miles on 3/4 tank -- I have fitted a CRDT module from DTUK at around half a tank, so unable to tell about mpg's.

Must also point out that I got a good deal on insurance from Chris Knott, as having never owned a car before, with zero no claims, they actually listened to my needs! Also mod friendly.

I was fortunate that the previous owner looked after this VRS so it was in good condition - the bodywork is in really good nick - much better than you would expect for the mileage.

At one point, I knew of every VRS for sale in the UK as I spent many hours looking!!

I am sure there is one out there for you, just know what you want and don't be tempted to down spec with special editions like the blackline which I nearly did for an added £2k cost!

Good luck with your search

Hi All,

Got the new one today - had to go a fair way to get it. It's the MK II FL vRS diesel. 2 and a bit years old with around 37k on the clock.

Very wet drive out there but a nice drive all the same. 52mpg indicated on the way back :)

Pics not too soon..... I'll give her a proper detail when we get some decent weather and post then.

Now going to drink my body weight in beer  :giggle:

Thanks again.

Good work!

Looks like I'm searching for the same car you were - if you don't mind me asking what sort of figure did you pick it up for? I am likely to be very picky on spec so want to make sure I'm being realistic.

Ideally I'm looking to get from a dealer - I'll be popping over to my local (Basingstoke) dealer this weekend to try and get on a mailing list or at least tell them what I'm looking for and to call me if they get anything that'd suit.

I am probably looking around March time, so when the new plates come out - hopefully it'll be a good time to pick up a trade-in!

Look forward to some pics of yours!

Thats good news - You won't regret it. I look forward to driving mine every time I get in it. Even though other cars might be more comfy and quieter the vRS is so much fun to drive.
