Console light

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have only just joined your gang after owning my Fabia for nearly a year. i cannot fault my car but the only thing I would like to do is fit a small LED to light up the cup holder area in front of the gearstick. Where is the the most convenient place to get a supply from the lighting circuit without affecting anything or pulling half the dash apart. I'm used to F*rd cars so bit unsure of Skoda electrics at the moment. Any ideas ? ( probably easy I know )  Thanks.

stereo? lol

Cigarette to usb plug then a usb light? Would the easiest I would think other then that I think there a spare power supply in fuse box but can't be sure, try doing a search and see what ya get mate

The 'proper' way is to get an autoleads can bus adapter that provides an orange illumination wire for you to use. The unofficial way is to tap one of the wires to the stereo and hope for the best.

Proper way ain't all that cheap though if all you want is an led (I used it to get a switched live for a wired car charger).

Thanks for help so far but all I need to know is which is the easiest wire to splice into so that I can have said LED come on with headlights.. Ta

You also said you didn't want to take the dash apart...!

Can you not take the headlight switch out and take the correct live from that? It wont be high power as it only operates relays id imagine, but it can be checked out?

Yep that is a plan but not having wiring diagram, which colour wire is it from light switch?  I'm used to F*rd looms not Volks/Skoda. .The other option already mentioned using  'ciggy socket'  is the easiest method but that means I could leave light on while car not in use. OK not a huge current drain but also means wires and plugs that look unsightly.

Yeah the cig lighter is a permanent live, so not ideal.

Never actually taken a headlight switch off mate, so im not sure. Im sure all vag ones will be the same wiring though so might be a wiring pic somewhere. Id then get a multimeter and check for continuity when you flick the switch over to headlights (or sidelights) just to double check

Spliced into grey/blue on light switch headlight height adjuster illumination. This bit of the switch is removable without taking the dash to bits. Now sorted and happy
