NCT failure due to high emissions

Featured Replies

Hi All,

So my Dad's car was tested for emissions during the NCT and she failed on the Carbon Monoxide (CO)emissions test. The reading is 7.7% CO, and has to be below 0.3% to pass. So, as good as Dipetane is, I think I'm gonna need some advice on what the issue may be.

BTW this is the re-test, and I had the lambda senor replaced after she failed the test the first time round; the mechanic assured me that this would fix the high CO reading, so seemed like a bargain at €250.

The same mechanic also said that he had a look at the CAT converter and it looked fine.

The car is a MK1 Octavia 1.6 glx.

Thanks in advance ;)

When was the air filter last changed, if its clogged it will cause ignition mixture to be incorrect. Could also be spark plugs or another ignition component causing unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust.

If you have access to VCDS then you can see what the car thinks is happening by looking at the measuring blocks in 01 - Engine.

Thanks for the quick reply ;)

The car has 133k on the clock, I changed the oil, air/oil filter, and sparks when she was roughly reading 127k. The reason I changed the sparks was because when I was out driving a few months back, I was at a junction, the light went green and I revved her to about 3000rpm let the clutch out, into 1st and she started to splutter, and starting misfiring, i got the car back home, changed the sparks, and thought no more of it.

I have VCDS-Lite, if that function is available I will have a go at that tomorrow. What info would i be interested in?
