Headlight Polishing?

Featured Replies

I've emailed Chemical Guys, as the American arm of the company does a decent kit including 2500 and 3500 grit paper (which I can't find anywhere over here)

I'm sure I saw that somewhere the otherday. Bound to be quality though.

Yup, I saw it on YouTube too.

The only way to get 2500 & 3500 grit paper, which is very fine seems to be to buy multiple sheet packs from fleabay.

As I would never use it other than to do the headlights, the CG just made more sense to my poor addled old brain!

Hi, I used toothpaste (no bicarbonate) by hand (15 mins both lights) and can Honestly say that there has been a marked improvement. My son also agreed so much so that he suggested I use his Dremel which I am going to do when the weather improves and instead of using toothpaste I am going to use autoSol which I do use on antique wris****ch crystals with unbelievable results.

All the best

Graham

Ps. The toothpaste was extra whitening Colgate

I don't understand why my post has stars in one of the words as the word is wrist watch

Now that the word is in two parts I can see the extra word in the middle of it is definitely no offence intended apologies if it has done so

T-cut......its basically brasso but the mongs out there (sorry if that means you  ) think its a car quality polish as they don't know any better.

3m abrasives, micro pads and finesse it, there IS a clear reason why the car industry doesn't remove imperfections in pistons and paintwork with the above.

It might be worth mentioning it in the Site Issues section. Brisky swear filter can be overzealous sometimes.

I used Micro Mesh, a padded abrasive cloth that goes to very fine grades (12k), specifically for wet polishing plastics, to do just this to Honda HR-V headlights a few years ago.  Easiest to do with the headlights out of the car, but then I haven't tried removing Skoda headlights yet...

Brasso and cotton polishing cloth worked for me on ten year old Fabia. Very cloudy mottled surface on both headlights back to crystal clear - eventually !

1000 grit followed by 2500 grit followed by 5000 grit .all used wet......then cutting paste & finally polish................best way to get rid of loads of rubbish, yellowing, stone chips etc.....nice & clear & no swirl marks!

Halfords own rubbing compound - £3.50 a tube - MEGA!
