wing mirror stolen!

Featured Replies

Hello,

I woke up at 9 o'clock in the morning, took my little girl, put her in the child seat, got in the car and what a surprise!

N/S wing mirror missing along with the backing plate, O/S wing mirror missing along with the backing plate and the electric motor.

I was shocked. Somebody knew exactly what to steal. Has it happened to anyone here?

I suppose it must have been a local crook who did it.

50 quid to get it sorted.

I'm speechless.

regards,

Simon

Stolen mirror? Fair enough not heard that one before?

Was it actually stolen i.e. neatly undone etc I didn't think you could get it off without getting in the car or broken off?

yes, very neatly done. I still can't believe it. Heating on the mirrors didn't work so they might be a bit disappointed.

Wow. Even mirrors aren't safe these days :(

how can you take the mirrors off without being inside the car?

Im guessing it was the glass not the entire wing mirror as thats screwed from inside. That sucks. Hate thieving scum. I had a mate whos front bumper got stolen from outside his house a few years ago!

I just wonder, when I've fitted new ones, is he gonna come back for them? cos those ones he stole from me didn't heat the glass

Fingers crossed he doesn't jokes on him though in the end!  :giggle:

Bloody scum, nothing is safe!

So when do you think I should post the topic about the new motor and glass that doesn't heat up I don't want to get caught out by Simon.  :giggle:

I know of people who steal car parts to order.

I.e I wanted a drivers door lock, clock from the dash and a few bits and pieces. The guy said nah ain't got any, will pinch one tonight.

Really!? I'm baffled. I really can't believe people do that surely most 'nickable' bits aren't all that expensive anyway... I must live quite a sheltered life...

Mirrors on S3s like mine get stolen all the time.

On account of them having silver coloured covers worth over

300 quid a pair on the 2nd hand market. Full price from Audi the

covers alone are over £500. Not to mention those with dimming glass

which are about £200 for just the piece of glass.

They are usually rather unceremoniously snapped directly off of the car

because even if you sacrifice the arm assembly and motors/wiring etc you can still

bank about 4-450 quid from a set of nicked mirrors.

If anything, the value of the salvageable parts makes them more vulnerable

since you can still easily sell them on. It takes all of 5 seconds to steal a pair.

It's the people with A3s trying to make them S3 replicas which feed the market

tbh.

I fancy a pair of those brushed alloy mirrors for my SE. Think it would look ok? Do they even make them for the fabia or would I have to wrap mine I wonder.

Where are you mate I've got an electric motor drivers side if you intrested

Seems dodgy if you ask me

No had mine smashed before Xmas motor is still ok I replaced the whole unit but kept the broken one just in case still attached to broken mirror

My friend is a vw mechanic and someone he worked with had a fabia vrs.

He woke up one morning went out to go to work and found his front bumper gone along with all the boost pipes and intercooler.

I know someone who has a volvo (new thing dunno what)

He went on holiday. Got back and went to start his car. ... it was flat. So phoned volvo assist to start it . Then he noticed. No back window! !

Someone took out the whole back window neatly.

When the mg zr came out a lad I knew made a fortune robbing the spoilers and selling them to lads with rover 200s. It's ****ty that you can't have a nice car because people will rob bits off it. Mine gets parked on the drive and has a security camera pointing at the front of it and the gates so hopefully mine won't get touched

I took my silver mirrors off and had some standard covers sprayed to match the car.

They are now safe and sound up in my loft in a box.

I would have thought that no one would be interested in a 13 year old green Fabia and whoever did it is a scum bag. Even now I can't drive the car without the mirrors but it wouldn't cross my mind to go and look for another fabia and nick the parts I need.

I am still thinking of one fabia on my estate that occasionally blocks my drive when I get back from work early morning. It's not a big estate, I live opposite a shop where loads of people from the estate stops at to get fags and other things. I could recognize my mirrors, cos I looked after them and they had a few marks at which I had been looking at for 7 years. I'll have a ride on my pushbike and take a look around. I kind of cant stop thinking about it.

Simon
