How to check total current draw from battery

Featured Replies

Following on from my stop start criteria thread, i am trying to get the the bottom of why it wont start. Im ruling out DPF regen as i have been for several 40 minute blasts now so i cant see that it would still need doing.

Looking at this thread -

It could be that the battery is not at optimum charge or has had its capacity reduced by running flat causing the system not to activate but before testing this i need to check that its isnt also high current draw which is the purpose of this thread. How do i check this? Can i do it via OBD and Torque or can a normal garage do it? Im hoping its not a VCDS job.

you need an inductive amp clamp on the earth lead of the battery,

Is that particular current clamp worth buying for car and home use?

Yes, but remember you can only clamp one conductor of a circuit and get a reading.

e.g. If you clamp a kettle lead you will not get a reading. If you clamp just the live or neutral wire you will get a reading.
