Autogylm paint protection (dealer option when purchasing car)

Featured Replies

Looking for replies from people who have actually had this put on their car (and seats etc) and what your thoughts are on it. Please don't reply saying "waste of money, don't know why you bothered etc" as I aren't interested about that.

I've selected it on mine and the promises made in the booklet seem quite good. Just wondered if this is actually the case.

Thanks.

Had it on my Silver '53 plate MK3 Toyota MR2 Roadster bought from The Car People Wakefield in naiver days.

Whether you "arent interested about that" or not.   It was a waste of time and i don't know why I bothered. Sorry.

Booklet promises much, product delivers little more than something you can do youself with a free day and an eighth of the cash.

You will find that people will quite passionately tell you that these things aren't worth it.  But that is only because so many of us who know what the product is are so annoyed at how badly dealerships rip-off customers, and they are just a mechanism to generate extra profit for the dealership and commission for the salesman.

Apologies if this isn't what you want to hear.  Applied correctly the protection isn't a bad thing, far from it, you just overpaid massively, unless it was offered as a throw in.

I have had dealer-applied paint sealants on two previous cars...I didn't pay extra for them, they were part of the "clincher" for the deal. Neither was Autoglym, but these treatments are all very similar, with several years warranty.

I can't comment on the interior treatments, because I'm very careful about the inside anyway. My cars always look unused inside even at 5 or 6 years.

As for the paintwork treatment...I was quite impressed with ease of washing, water beading etc for a few years from treatment. However, my cars have a very "easy" life...spending most of the time garaged.

One big proviso...results will depend on how well the treatments are applied.

No no thanks for the reply. I didn't want people who hadn't had it on their car comment. If you've got it on and think its a waste that's fair enough.

It did what most good sealants should do, but it's just so insanely overpriced and I didn't find it to have the long term durability claimed.

Lifeshine is a reasonable product providing the preparation & application is done correctly! Unfortunately 95% of the time it's not, hence why it has a bad reputation! I used to work at a high end dealership & have applied it (properly) a fair amount of times over 7yrs :) the 'Gloss Protection A' easily outlasts many boutique waxes in terms of durability - just don't expect miracles! ;) the 'Glass Guard B' is a good glass sealant - not the most efficient at low speeds, working best at 50mph> but good durability. The 'Interior Protection C' is on a par with any other interior protection sprays. I always preferred the Supagard version for application as it was in aerosol form not a trigger sprayer so more accurate & even coating achieved. Obviously that doesn't affect you as you won't be applying it lol.

I got Lifeshine thrown in with my Octavia as they refused to budge more on the price and couldnt add a full tank. In all honesty i was more interested in the Free kit (probably worth £75 retail) than their promises. Their application was shoddy as the glass had visible protected and unprotected areas in the wet and the interior must have just been spritsed with a product just as i collected as the seats had a chemically smelling residue. Apart from poor application the product on the car is alright. No better than i could do at home but if you can get it thrown in its worth it for the warranty and the free kit.
