Skoda prices.......eeehhhhhh

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was hoping my next new car to be a Yeti and I was hoping for a top of the range L&K diesel with DSG.

But...........

Approaching £30,000........you must be joking Mr. Skoda.

Although I am a big fan of the brand I now not prepared to pay this kind of dosh for a Skoda......this is Audi/Volvo/BMW money.

Rant over.

Regards

Smithy

  • And the nearest equivalent Audi will cost you around £38k, ditto Volvo and BMW. So sorry, I don't quite understand your comparison.

  • Oh, and the reason Skoda's are now so expensive is because you buggers are buying them!   Go and buy somewhere else and leave me to enjoy my cheap re-badged VW!

  • But Audi are two brands up supposedly.Skoda prices are getting close to VW. To be expected though. Supply and demand, they are in business to earn money, not just supply people with bargains.

Yep I agree ! , however skoda haven't been cheap for years as they are no longer thought of as a vw poor relation, if you want cheap (relatively speaking) you've got to go Korean

Which Audi/BMW/Volvo though.

You are starting at £30,000 for lower model manuals in the likes of a Q3, X3, XC 60 are you not?

I don't think there really is a cheap brand outside of Dacia - and their underpinnings are enough to make anyone run to the hills. I wouldn't even consider Korean to be particularly cheap any more either.

Skoda seem to occupy the ground that once was VW territory. The only 'value' brand left for VAG appears to be SEAT and even then it must be misery spec to keep the price down.

The most sensible thing for anyone looking for a car is to go nearly new. You'll make a heck of a saving on that £30k.

Graham, top of the range Skodas are now around the same price as entry level Audi etc so they are no longer as cheap as they were when the Estelle was the current model.

That's the comparison.

But Dacia is the place to look if you want really cheap these days.

I read the OP as stating you'd be able to buy an Audi/ BMW/ Volvo for the same money, not 4x4 variants. Probably what was meant.

We originally wanted an 18 month/ 2yr old A6 estate but decided that the Superb offered more space and better value. Bought the Skoda at four months old, the new price as specced would have been about £31k

Priced an A6 specced as close as possible to the L&K ( but only 2wheel drive as Quattro on an A6 means a 3ltr ) and it came in at about 50k. Admittedly 30k is Audi/BMW money but if you spend 30k on one I reckon it'll be poverty spec.

You can be a owner of a new BMW for £19,500 ,

but if someone is looking at a top of the range 4x4 Auto SUV from one maker @ £27,050,

what does that have to do with the Bottom of the range Premium Brand?

Compare Apples and Pears, or lemons.

So you aren't comparing like for like!

To get the same accessories such as fitted to a top-of-the-range Yeti in an equivalent Audi, then the Audi is going to cost considerably more than £30k. More like £38k, as I said.

The problem is that people don't look at the true comparison, just their conceived end figure.

And note that I have never said Skoda are cheap, however if compared with a more realistic competitor, such as Kia, then they are about equal.

Drive the deal.

Just been in the market for a new car as son as passed his test and been given swmbo's C1

Would have bought a Fabia but it is ridiculously overpriced for what is a relatively uneconomical and 'dirty' (high co2) car

Citigo, again, imo overpriced, doesn't feel particularly premium (read low rent) not the most economic, and only the dearest model falls into 0 rfl.

Ended up buying a Peugeot 107, top of the range So esp, bit of leather, a/c bluetooth etc etc all for £7500, massive mpg, 0 rfl and very strong residuals.

Sorry Skoda, still love my Octy though :)

Bargains are easy to find on cars people might not be wanting, like a Q3 Manual.

Apples and Pears,

If someone wants a DSG from Sloda/VW they probably want S-tronic with an Audi.

If Ugly is OK,

then you can have a BMW Mini Countryman Diesel 4x4 Automatic for £25,000

point is, this is hardly bottom of the range Audi for Skoda money.

Higher up the range, still bargains to be had ok a little over the £30k

BUT that is allegedly VAG premium brand as opposed to say VW, (even if you do have to be a complete **** to buy one (i believe there is a test and everything)

That £7,000 extra for those overpriced Audis does not even come back to you after 3 or 4 years of ownership,

Residuals on Audis are not as good as people like to think.

Or the Audi Dealership like you to think.

Audi have been punting out so many Lease Cars and Assisting in the Manufacturers Contribution,

that Private Cash buyers are in for some bad news in 2017 or so when they try to trade in their cars.

Audis are nice and all that stuff, but like higher price VW's, cost you about £4000 a year if you want to own one for just a few years.

And for the top spec Skoda Yeti L&K DSG 170 with metallic paint (roughly equivalent spec to the Q3), the Drive the deal price is £27,791 - not really in the same league as the Q3

Twasme,

OP has said he looked at a Yeti at around £30k, so that was probably a 170, 4x4, DSG, L & K.

So the nearest (??) equivalent you could consider to be the Q3, but at £38k. Ignore discounted prices as not everyone can get them or wants them. Plus looking at the spec sheet the Q3 S Line doesn't come with all the same toys as the Yeti.

You also haven't looked at residuals, which seem to better on the Yeti, or the additional cost of servicing on the Audi.

As others have said, the comparisons being quoted are unrealistic, and really are "apples and pears"

My dear sycophants, the op said the yeti was Audi money, the mob got on their high horses and said he would be lucky to get poverty spec Audi for Skoda money, I was just pointing out this is not the case. Wether he wants a Q3 is immaterial. You can't ignore discounts with the sweep of a hand, just because Skoda rarely discount or only by a small margin on the yeti. Oh and the last time looked Skoda are no longer listed on D2D nor have they been for several months.

I'm not the only one who got what the point was then  :mmm:

I do not consider £27,500-£28,000 to be getting near £30,000,  which is one factor to the thread.

£2,000 of is still £2,000 even at Top of the Range motors.

I know how easy it is to spec up.

I know how easy it is to get a Audi at £34,000 up to £40,000 and the Salesperson is still telling you that does not include TPMS in the Package you want & those are another £120.

(they still put S-Line Audi's out with cheaply painted Silver Calipers and Discs that rust at the sight of some moisture or sitting around a few days.

VAG brands, in the Cheap 4, are what they are, all that glitters, might only glitter untill the first winter is past.)

One of my Westfield buddies bought a new Kia Sportage with Sat Nav, leather and a few more little extras for £28,000, I thought it was lot but conversely another friends wife bought a new 7seat Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 with out any expensive extras for £11,750, bloody bargain for a family runabout, even though it's a Vauxhall.

I don't understand why anyone would buy new anyway (excluding HP, PCP etc.).

£30,000 for a Skoda, Audi, VW or any other manufacturer is crazy, that's thirty - thousand - pounds!

I bought my one owner, 12 month old, 14,000 mile mid spec Superb for £12,000 and even that was painful :giggle:
