Piper no silencers cat back how loud ?

Featured Replies

My cars a daily so don't want to be driven mad by a stupidly loud exhaust ,it has got a crappy magnex cat back fitted from when I bought the car but the tail pipe is dented and I'm after a sportier sound and better quality ! I've looked at videos on other posts but it's hard to gauge how much louder it is on a video .

And is it legal to have no silencers (fuzz can be hot on mod'd cars round me )

Have you seen the videos I posted?

It's quite loud on boost, but the Fabia is insulated against the sound when cruising around motorways etc

I'm not sure if I've seen your videos mate I've seen a few on here and YouTube ! That's not so bad then . I want something with a bit of grunt and throatiness but not stupid like the 17year olds with the Saxos and Subarus you can hear in a mac donalds car park 3 miles away !

I had a full Piper straight through cat-back system a while back, and once it was coked up after a bit of use it made quite a nice noise. It wasn't loud at all - just a nice addition that wasn't over the top. It's so useable to have for a daily driver - you can hardly even hear it at 90....

Then my turbo went pop, so I had a de-cat fitted and mapped in at the same time. It is now quite considerably louder. When it comes on boost it sounds like a bloody rocket ship!! It's LOUD when on boost. Heads turn everywhere to see what the hell it is! Saying this, it's still quite quiet from inside the car if you don't boot it. I can do 80 without issues. I will admit that it drones a bit too much at 90. I tend to stick to 60mph on the commute to save fuel though, so there's no issues at all...

So my advice is first ask yourself whether you're likely to get it de-catted in the future. If so, then I'd get a Piper system with 1 silencer in. If not then just stick with the straight through.

I wouldn't say I'd want to de-cat it .its meant to be a cheep somewhat standard daily driver so no massive engine work , it was running 170bhp when I bought it and that's more than enough for me ,I'd just like a bit more of a engine note

I drove my Ibiza with a decat and a Piper 0-silencer system for the first time in quite a while the other week. **** me it was loud on boost...

At castle Combe it was 99 decibels when stationary at 3.5k apparently

I've not got a piper but I am running a custom decat 0 box exhaust and it's not that loud from inside. It gives a nice throaty roar on full boost that must be fairly loud as it gets lots of looks. Since I fitted the s2000 air filter it's louder inside but it does sound good so I'm happy with it

I love the noise mine made while I was moving. Hated it at idle. Turbo whistle was vile.

I guess it all depends what turbo your running. Joel is running a turbo back with no boxes on his GTB 2260 and that thing sounds absolutely amazing!

I'm running a piper turbo back, sports-cat 0 silencer.. It makes some weird noises on Idle but driving along normally its relatively quiet when your sat inside, and its also not boomy on the motorway.. the main difference you'll notice is on boost.. On boost it sounds epic..

I made a video of mine, not great but gives an idea of what it sounds like being revved stood still (evil ;) ) ill try and post it

Thats mine, cat back with 0 silencers :)
