Has 4120 firmware caused problems?

Featured Replies

I've finally managed to update my 39** firmware to 4120. Everything went fine, I now have radio text but I have to say its a bit basic. Apart from that I haven't noticed any other improvements.

One problem I do have though is that I can't get any POIs to display, whether they are built in ones such as petrol stations or the speed cameras. I'm using V9 maps 7920. Am I missing something?

I have 4120 and with standard v.9 maps (7918 ?) all was fine, POI's (both inbuilt & custom) displayed just fine.

Now on v.10 I find I can't load POI's, (but Eddie-NL is helping on that one).

Apart from the usual things like doing a 3-button reset I can't see what else there is. Are your POI's able to load from SD card OK?

Thanks Profesor, I`ll try a reset. I`m not loading any from SD card, I don`t know how to do that, I`m just using the ones built into the V9 maps.

Can I just confirm. All I have to do is put a tick in the box next to my chosen POI. I don`t have to be navigating or doing anything else.

You might need to reload the map data, between certain firmware versions the POI format changed, and the new firmware cannot read the old POI data. if you have access to the V10 maps, upgrading to these will sort the POI issue out. The V9 and V10 map DVD's contain both formats, and the relevant POI data is loaded with the maps.

Ok thanks. I`ll try first reloading my V9 maps. If that fails I`ll look out for V10 maps

Reload is not straight forward, since the Columbus will think nothing has changed. To reload V9, you'll need to insert the V8 disk, then select copy to HDD, then force eject the disk once it starts copying, then put the V9 disk back in.

Thanks mannyo. Wish I'd waited for your last post. I've just sat for an hour or so loading 7918 back into the Columbus. I'll do 7920 tomorrow.

I didn't know ejecting 7918 straight away would work. I've got POIs back anyway, apart from speed cams obviously but hopefully they'll be back tomorrow when I reload 7920.

Eventually got everything sorted. I managed to get V10 maps and loaded those et voila I have my POIs back. Feeling a bit smug I decided to have a go at loading my own POIs (the Pocketgps camearalert ones) and even managed that as well. So with 4120 firmware and radio text, new maps and POIs I`m very happy.

Good to hear pocketgpsworld mentioned.

Is there any info on whether the pocketgpsworld POIs are read out and whether you can choose how far in advance they're read out?

When uploading the OV2 file to the old TOM TOMs the TOM TOM would allow you to specify n metres ahead of a 60, n metres ahead of a 70 etc etc.

No voice notifications at all for me, I only get the icons appearing.

I might have done something wrong as I also uploaded the Shell Vpower stations and they don't appear.

the system doesn't support voice or sound alert of POI. Its the only thing I miss from using TomToms

Ahh. Thanks. So cant really use as a camera reminder device then.

Never mind - it's not the purpose of the unit but would have been nice nonetheless.

Might need a tom tom after all still, or something that can have pocketgpsworld sites loaded up to.

I use CamerAlert on my iphone which uses my pocketGPS camera subscription, it runs at the same time as TomTom or independently.
