front roll bar clamp possibly stripped

Featured Replies

I think the captive nuts on my front roll bar clamps have come loose, as in detached themselves from the bodywork.

Does anyone know the best way of fixing it? Can it be welded? I plan to replace the lower arms so will have most of that crap out of the way...!

Anyone had the same problem  ?

I would just use a nylock nut to replace it and a spanner. They will never last that long as they are only tacked on.

I was discussing that earlier with someone. Is it possible to get a slim wrench in there then?

Would be interested to know how you get it started though, looks like it would be a nightmare to get the nut lined up in the first place.

You could try a much longer bolt and nyloc as said to bring the clamp together, then swop it out to the shortest bolt you can work with to do the job (may have to be longer than the standard bolt) sort of like you do when you fit the revised oem bushes.

It will be a lot of faffing about but you should eventually be able to do it. Sometimes when access is difficult and you need a thin spanner I have raided my sons pushbike kit for one of his thin spanners. As you only want to hold the nut while you tighten the bolt with a ratchet, I have found these good enough.

Thanks, do you know what size bolt I need for the ARB clamp? I know you can use the rear caliper bolt but I'd rather just buy new ones and use those instead and leave them in there permanently, assuming they don't bottom out.

There is a point where a much longer bolt will bottom out, forget what length I ordered for mine but I took them from either Bowders1's or Lloyds post on here. Seem to remember 25mm and 30mm in there somewhere.

Perhaps Bowders will confirm when he see's this. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Thanks, I'll have a root through some older posts.
