Vrs buyers guide

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking at a vrs tomorrow with about 140k on the clock, it's a petrol engine, any tips on what to look for? At the minute, the timing chain tensioner is the big thing I think I need to check has been changed and when...

Thanks.

What year is it? Only the face lifted ones have the tsi engine with the chain. The pre face lift are the tfsi engine with a belt. Have you got any detail of the car? Is it on the Internet anywhere?

It' was first registered sept 2006 so I'm guessing it got a belt. The best part is that it's sat outside my house now :) very please with it.

Yeah if its a 2006 then its fitted with the TFSI engine & that has a timing belt not a chain,do you know when the belt was last replaced?

It was done at 45k & 90k when the last owner bought it. I'm guessing at 150k, it'd be sensible to get it done again?

Am I guessing around £300 including the water pump is about the norm?

Yeah around £300 is ok,more at a dealer though,at 150k should be ok,i think its 60k or every 4 years whichever comes first.

How about a 2007 tfsi engine my brother has a 06 a3 which has a chain on it. I'm going to look at 2007 69 k the garage said they would service and replace the belt but no tax and wants 5500
