SMF or pressure plate problem?

Featured Replies

I have a shaking front end at speeds under load, especially going up hill, between 75-90mph. I have also felt it under acceleration, but not around town at lower speeds. I feel it in the car under my feet and in the wheel and it is quite heavy such that I have to back off for put my foot down to accelerate through it. It is most marked in 6th, and less in 5th and 4th, at the same speed, but still there.

The only other symptom I have is that my flywheel is chattering on the move, which seems to have grown worse, especially under 2000rpms. When I push the clutch in the chattering stops, which is of course, normal, but the chattering flywheel on the move does not seem normal. I am wondering if I have some sort of balancing problem that has slowly developed, which causes the shake under load at speed, and wondering if anyone else has come across this?

Struts, shocks, strut top mounts, upper gear box mount, drive shafts including inner and outer cv joints, rear wheel bearings, and drop links all changed recently. I have no shaking on heavy braking. Changed to the vibratechnics upper gearbox mount which has damped the shaking leading me to think it is the gearbox or engine that is shaking at those speed, but it hasn't stopped the problem. What symptoms should you have if a spring on the clutch plate is damaged?

So actually...if I think about this, when the clutch is disengaged, the chattering stops which means the engine and gearbox are disconnected. When the clutch is engaged I hear the rattling, whether in neutral or in gear on the move, meaning that perhaps my input shaft or bearings have worn, causing the input shaft to wobble under torque, at higher speeds and shake my front end wildly. Or, perhaps the clutch has worn unevenly causing a balance problem?
