rear view camera on columbus

Featured Replies

i want to fit a rvc to a columbus.. iv read diff things about them so its hard to get a clear view on this

will it work with the newest firmware that stops power drain ?

and are they easy to fit ? ( cant find how too )

If you have firmware that stops battery drain then the camera won't work

ah damn, however.. i am replacing the gateway this week so i suppose downgrading FW to one without power drain resolve is an option unless i can get the newest FW without the power drain resolve

If you are replacing the CAN gateway to stop battery drain, then you will be able to use a newer firmware (unmodified) and have RVC.

o great

where do i get the newsest FW from that will allow RVC ?

TY in advance

Try 'My Gti' website .

It has info on retro fitting RVC (in a Golf which is the same platform as an Octavia) and also the firmware up to 4020 (it's under RNS-510 which is the VW name for a Columbus).

yeh iv got 4020 FW now ( modified ), but guessing this is not good from RVC

looks like i might be able to get the 4369 fw.. i need to find which ones are good fro rvc

i was told RVC wont work with FW with power drain resolve built in

just trying to find where i can get FW without it.. think this 4020 has power drain resolve but as my car is 05 reg then gateway cant stop power drain anyway ( upgrading gateway this week )

i have no OPC . just old style sensors

Upgrade the gateway to one that prevents power drain then put an unmodified firmware on the Columbus.

You can have RVC display without OPS . It's just that 4020 allows them both to display at the same time.

I didn't think there was a firmware beyond 3180 that had been modified to resolve battery drain... This is the answer to your original question.

What gateway do you have fitted?

What Columbus do you have?

What PDC controller do you have?

Do you have factory fitted parking sensors? Rear only or front. & rear?

If you can tell us these we may be able to advise further and more specifically.

What gateway do you have fitted?           unknown as of now, have no vcds/vac-com . but just purchased a 7N0907530AF and having it coded in this week hopefully as my gateway is 2005 and im told its the cause of power drain

What Columbus do you have?  MFD3 3T0 035 680 C   as per here  think this is refered to as the RNS-510 ?

What PDC controller do you have?  Not OPS - 2005 car.. just beeps at me

Do you have factory fitted parking sensors? Rear only or front. & rear?   rear only

Your PDC controller also controls the beeps...

Columbus will support RVC.

There is no reason why your Columbus (in the link) should be on modified firmware.

Your Columbus can be upgraded to newer firmware than 4020 (if that is what it actually has).

4020 (unmodified) will support RVC.

Your new gateway will support RVC.

If you want OPS you'll need new controller & possibly new sensors (that's a grey area).

not so bothered about OPS.. i don't think

beeps and RVCamera will suffice i should think

So looks like my 4020fw wil be fine for RVC then as its not modified for power drain. great job. ill stick with it then

Spent all night finding info on the 5238fw.. hazy area. but if its not needed then ill not bother

appreciate your advice

My Columbus is still on firmware 2724, and the reverse camera works perfectly on this.

Yeh, looks like some of the modified ones tho restrict camera from operating

4180 will add radiotext.

Can see any other benefit in upgrading.

I'd be surprised if it is still on 4020 though.

might search myself a 4180 fw torrent then :-)

and thiers a pure example of my ****e memory.. just double checked.. its running 4120

I still don't think there is a 4120 firmware modified to avoid battery drain.

To me this suggests that, if the Columbus is already fitted to your car, you have a CAN gateway new enough to avoid battery drain already.

What gateway do you have fitted?

  • Author

ah, i fitted the columbus and BT. so the gateway could very well be insufficient

When did you fit it? Are you getting battery drain?

If it was more than 24 hours ago and you haven't driven your car and your car still starts, then you don't have battery drain.

That means you either have a new enough gateway (after 'K') or the firmware has been modified (but I don't know of any modified firmware after 3810a) and, as you have 4120 firmware, I suspect that it is the former.

had it in a week.. every morning i have really really low battery or dead

took fuse out two nights ago that supplies radio and bingo.. engine started the next morning no probs

You need the new gateway then and that will solve that problem.

You also don't have a modified firmware.

And then you'll be able to fit an RVC.

  • Author

perfect

ill get the gateway coded this week and the RVC will be the next project

Appreciated

There are threads on here, on My GTi and VWNavi about it.

But do let us know how you get on. Pictures, write ups, etc. always appreciated.

I have HW:H71 & 4120 factory fitted. No issues. RVC fitted last year and works perfectly.
