Cool...what is it then?

Featured Replies

Seems to be an awful lot of confusion about what is 'cool' and what does it mean :)

Cool doesn't to me mean anything about a cars handling or performance capabilities...just how does that car appear to people in 2005,be it a 2005 model car or a 1945 car.Would it look cool and attract admiring glances?

Top gear thinks skoda is not cool.I think there is a cool element to them for various reasons so again,a different view of cool :)

Please move if I should not have posted here.Just interested to see what people think is the definition of cool

I would aggree, cool is a view of how it looks not how it drives or sounds, as all cars sound the same when parked up but most look different, if you have a car that people glance at because it stands out in an unmodified state then that would be cool in my mind.

If you think about a ferrari with a mini engine would that still be cool? or not after all the engine only drives the car the body is what makes it cool & what people want to be seen in.

Ferraris aren't cool anyway :P

Bright yellow GT on Toll road....looked lovely, would love to have one, so for me it's cool, nice ca, nodding donkey as he went past...it's cool.

Everyone definition will vary, so I guess if you feel it's going to be cool to be in (amazed the freezer poll has not appeared yet!).

So I'd consider a DB9 more cool than an Enzo....but the 14 is cooler than the F18 and of course lego tshirts win hands down for retro cool.

To me, Skodas aren't "cool" in the sense that most people gaze at them as they go past. However, I think it's pretty darned cool to have an estate that has all those toys in it, does nearly 60mpg and has quite a bit of poke all for

If think this makes it pretty clear:

^^^ Ah, now i understand... ;)

so are mod'd cars not allowed to be cool then??

cos for me the mk1 golf witht he TVR chimera engine/drivetrain/suspension was very cool

It all comes down to how you percieve cool.

You can see it as stylish, in which case a Mitsubishi Evo is not cool or stylish, nether is a new red Ferrari or Hypercars. A new Yellow Ferrari or a classic red one (like the daytona) on the other hand is cool as is something that looks funky like the Renault Megane. As naff as it sounds, the Top Gear test for their cool wall when it comes to style is spot on. If something fits in outside the trendy bars of London, Manchester, etc and does not scream 'look at how great I am' like an Enzo would, then it will be cool.

or there is the thinking if something lairy and different is cool, in which case the Evo and Scooby are cool as well as Hypercars like the Enzo would be cool. It's all down to interpretation of cool as are lax power styled cars.

I personally go with the first vague description in which case no Skoda on sale from the last 30 years is cool (The last cool looking Skoda was the Felicia roadster from the late 60's).

If small boys approach you in the street and say "nice car mister", chances are your car is cool. It really is that simple.

Not round here it isn't ..

that statement is usually followed by.."I'll mind it for a fiver and make sure nobody scratches it"
