Just thought I would put this recommendation up here as I think it is a must for anyone who loves cars. Mel was one of the editors of CAR magazine back in th 70s and 80s when many considered it to be the best car magazine in the world. He went on to be a writer for Classic and Sports car before finally becoming editorial director at Haymarket. Proper old school jounalist like Steve Cropley and Gavin Green (fellow Aussies) who wrote long and descriptive articles about some great journies and cars. Clarkson is said to have modeled the "group journies on TG" on the cross continental articles Nichols and co did at Car in the day (i.e Sant' Agata-London(  which is featured in the book.

 

Definately worth a try for those who think modern motoring magazine jounalism is dull as ditch water:
