blow near the manifold ffs! !

Featured Replies

As you can prob gather by now.. it doesnt rain on me it ****es down..!!

Car developed a blow like I took the manifold off for fun.. sounds bloody terrible.

So either the manifold is cracked or the gasket is shot.

But the gasket looked great when I changed the turbo a few days back hence why I reused it..

So..... manifold off AGAIN!! then I will see what im looking at

Waiting for the rain to stop falling on me.. one week of ownership and so much drama. My 25 year old e30 didnt give me this much trouble!!! :-/

Possible the nuts have worked loose? Also what colour is your car?

Yeah bet bolts have come loose that hold tubby to manni

Ive checked the 3 bolts that hold turbo to manifold... they are nipped on nice..

But its possible the manifold to head nuts may have worked loose I will check those tomorrow

The gasket looked great so I find it hard to believe it would be that really.

Are these manifolda prone to cracking guys? Being cast.....

Car is silver... this is prob a bad thing haha

Could be a cracked manifold I had one on mine,a 03 vrs

bearing in mind you've just had it off the car I'd be putting money on the nuts just coming loose

silver is good lol

Well after driving home 10 miles from the Mrs gramps, it's def got louder. A LOT LOUDER!! :-o

So the above theory of the nuts working loose is very plausible. Gunna get a socket on them in the morning and hope that's what it is

clive is usually right

I've checked those Ter, needed a tiny nip up but those are ok now..

But it def got louder on route home lol

Usually red ones that cause trouble.

My guess is loose bolts somewhere. Maybe downpipe

Turns out its the manifold to turbo gasket..!! After 3 days :-o

This was  supposed to be a "high performance gasket", cost me a tenner and been on the car 3 days!!!!

I will be ringing them when I get back.. take a pic of the gasket and want my money back

Not happy bunny. Off to tps now

a high performance gasket will cost you 150 quid not a tenner

Oem gasket

There is no high performance gasket

If it was an all copper one then that's your issue

I had similar problem after doin a turbo change and had to change all 3 gaskets to find it but funds meant i did them once at a time and the final one i did was manifold gasket and that was the culprate it was blown bad but all good now had a month use then steering rack went nd done that so just waiting for something else to go wrong lol

There was my problem

I had this as well. For ~£4 or less from a dealer, it fixed my blowing. I did think it was a crack in the manifold though, especially as I have a spare with a tiny crack on the turbo mating face. This was my gasket after 103k miles. The bolt closest to the head had actually completely unwound itself as well, but thankfully, it was trapped and couldn't physically drop onto the floor. It was a relief to find that it was intact and half of it wasn't left broken in the turbo...
