Hi all at the moment i have volvo c30 d5 but i just found out that my mrs is pregnant so i need to sell my little 3 door car to get something bigger. I don't want another diesel as its pointless for me as i work 4 minutes away from my home so i am not saving money running diesel  i am actually spending more on dpf's, egr's and all that crap. I don't want estate so 5 door skoda octavia vrs sounds perfect. I am usually driving within speed limits only time to time i like to floor it.  I am looking for a 2006-2008 model should i go for sat nav or is it better just to buy after market head unit? any premium sound systems? any problems with engine i should know of before purchase? any other options worth having? thank you in advance for all your help

Are you 100% sold on the vRS? If not the 1.8tsi is a bit of a stealth car by comparison and you could get a newer less miles model for the same money plus it'll be cheaper to run too. Just a thought.......

i  didnt even know that there is 1.8t version. It sounds great but they are very rare

Theres a few on suk's website to give you some idea about the cost comparison between the 1.8 and the vRS. I was after one 18 months ago but skoda had stopped doing the 1.8 by then. Good luck

1.8 TSI a tremendous car and  with a remap is 200BHP plus, gives most people a real scare :-)

Unassuming no hassles at all, unless you succumb to the Timing chain tensioner failing  .000000001 percent brigade

Get a warranty and enjoy refined worry free motoring for relative peanuts

I have had mine 2 years and 26,000 miles

just 2 blown bulbs and a litre of oil, best car ever and at 91K still going like a new one!

If your doing very low mileage then deffo have a look at the 1.8 TSI as has been said, its a pretty quick motor and not miles behind the vRS on the 0-60 sprint.

Probably a little better on fuel too.

How soon are you looking to replace?

I only ask as I have a company car coming at some point and will likely be posting up a freedom advert on here if I need to sell.

That plus there will be plenty of people with cars that may be attractive to you on here as well as elsewhere.

Thanks guys 1.8 t version sounds really interesting and I like the fact that it doesn't shout "race me" in your face. What about equipment for example I have a high performance sound system in Volvo which is great and I was wondering if there are any options like that in skoda? By the way I saw one 1.8 tfsi with white leathers and that's what I am talking about lol.I am planning to change my car arround June so I still have few months

I got the VRS just before the missus got pregnant the big boot in the Octy is a blessing. It's a good caf for lugging junk.

Unless you're after the styling and the extra poke the 1.8TSI is probably the best all round engine. Allegedly a some of them make a fair bit more power than they should. It might be easier to get a VRS however.

There have been a few posts on here about the sat nav units being targeted by thieves. Might actually be better to keep the standard head unit and buy a Tom Tom.

you could pick up a 1.8 TSI in L&K spec for around £11-£12k on an 11 plate.

If coming from an R Design D5 then you would want the VRS. It also rides a lot better than the R Design on 18s. You will also notice it is a lot bigger inside than the C30 especially in the front. I had a V50 D5 R Design before it was written off and the VRS is a lot bigger inside. The V50 struggled at times with a pram in the boot and luggage which the Octavia seems to eat easily with plenty of room to spare. I went with the VRS CR DSG estate as I preferred the look of the estate rather than the 5 door. I also have found the insurance being slightly cheaper.

In November i had my c30 remapped so at the moment power output is around 215bhp and 475ft of torque (done by shark performance)  that's why i was leaning towards vrs but 1.8 tsi version sounds promising especially that everybody keep telling me that soon after i will become a father i wont be driving fast.

Lol don't count on it. I usually get a little voice from the back of the car saying "Go fast Daddy, I like going fast".
