I am really darned annoyed.

 

Left my car parked where I normally do for my night shifts and came back in the morning to find the NS wing mirror damaged.

 

The black lower bit which has the indicator was totally smashed, although the light still works. I obviously need new mirror glass, and the racing blue plastic housing is cracked at the bottom. I've somehow pieced them together for now...so it's functional.

 

Do I need to buy a whole new wing mirror from the scrappies, or is it easy to find just the bits? The blue housing is probably salvageable, I can get a new mirror...what do I do about the black bit with the clear plastic for the indicator light?

 

Found a seller on eBay breaking a TSFI VRS...negotiated down to £50 for the whole wing mirror unit. Is that the going rate?

 

Any cheaper alternatives?

It wont get too much cheaper I wouldnt have thought for the whole mirror but the lower bit can be had new from skoda for 20 quid if it doesnt include puddle lights, although it is 40 quid if it does have puddle lights. Part number is 1z0 949 101 and the suffix is c for no puddle lights, d with. Try skodaparts.com.

The light is still intact, just need the black fascia. I could probably use a bit of glue and salvage the top blue fascia bit. The mirror will cost another £10.

 

Probably looking at £35 over the £50 for the whole unit. For the sake of £15 and messing around with glue, should I just replace the whole thing?

Possibly but door card will have to come off and then there is the chance the whole unit is not mint. You might be able to get a whole new unit for similar from eBay.

Be thankful they're not the self dimming, heated L&K ones EEK!

Yes to access the bolts and wiring plug. If you go down that route, make sure you have some replacement clips for the door card as they tend to break as you pull it off.

Oh boy...this is going to take a while then. Cheapest to obtain clips from dealer?
