Hydrodipping

Featured Replies

Has anybody had any bits done  if so could you post some pictures please

Also whats maximum length the can do reason be is I have a silver vrs and im thinking of doing the following bits in carbon fibre effect

front grill

cupra r splitter

bumper strips

milotec rear bumper

and posibly mirrors

could they do that with the legnth of the bumper trims and would they need painting

The film almost always comes in 1 metre squared pieces so thats what you work to. Decent dippers can match patterns up so can do larger areas but dipping large areas becomes very expensive and can look bloody awful if it's done too much. You want to use the dip to accentuate things rather than overwhelm things. Little bits here and there look great

The film comes in whatever size you order, any size can be dipped if you have a big enough tank but personally I agree with above, big areas look crap. And yes, to get a good finish you will need primer, base coat, then film, then lots of lacquer. I have a 150cm×100cm tank, and don't dip anything bigger than an engine cover

Would you class bumper strips as a big area though as there what 2 in deep and 6 foot long

funny eggesford as every dipper I know and we have quite a few who we promote say it comes as 1m square sheets as standard with larger sheets being pretty special orders costing considerably more with large delays for decent films as they come from the US

dont know why they would tell you that, unless perhaps they only have small tanks?

That's cheap chinese film, the carbon fibre is dire with a weave of about 1cm so looks like it was done by a 5 year old. Guys we help have large tanks and dip allsorts of stuff and have alot of experience in their field and are very well respected in the scene- unless of course they're all totally wrong and you're right?

from a dipping point of view, yes, its quite big, you would ideally want a tank 7-8 foot long to get the best finish

having said that, they are very thin in the middle iirc so could be done in two halves in a smaller tank

yawn......

as i said, that was one example i got from quickly typing it into ebay. i dont really care what sizes they can get to be honest, or what size their tanks are, or if you think i am wrong.

TBH I really think YOU should be concerned about being wrong when you're giving people advice. It's an expensive thing to get done and done by the wrong people with the wrong films will be totally dire and once it's done you can't strip back the dip and go back to stock so it's kind of important it's done right first time and not by someone using cheap film which looks dire. It's like suggesting to someone on a forum with no experience starts flashing their ECU with a cloned MPPS- a) it's illegal B) they'll likely brick their ECU. But hey, what difference does that make eh?

but im not wrong, you are

the op asked a question, you gave an answer, so did i

now jog on

Ah, you must be professional hydrographics guy then yeah?

No. Are you?

NOpe but I make sure what i'm saying is gospel when I'm giving advice- my advice comes from experience having stuff dipped, promoting hydrographics companies and having 3 personal friends who are dippers

I make sure what i'm saying is gospel

in the 2 posts you are arguing with me on you have told one OP that ONLY a skoda dealer can install a factory map, and the other that hydodip film only comes in 1m squares..

Gospel.

I am bored of arguing with you now mate you clearly know everything, everyone else may as well stop giving advice.

Now boys, play nice....

LMAO- you truly are bad mate lol. What I've given is the correct advice  is it not? You have suggested someone do something that will likely brick their ECU and also for them to use crappy cheap films designed cheap DIY 'dipkits'...yeah- both fantastic calls mate, you're an absolute diamond in the rough!!

Flashing a map onto an ecu is not rocket science mate.

And I didn't say he should use cheap films, what I said was films can be bought in whatever sizes you want. The eBay link was an example.

Anyhoo, im off to dish out dangerous advice to unsuspecting victims mwa ha ha ha

And no, your advice is incorrect. Any mapper who does vag cars is likely to have a factory may suitable for a vrs, not just a dealer.

And film is available in many sizes, like I said

Or am I wrong on this?

oooooooh, I stand corrected! You didn't suggest they buy that fantastic quality film by pasting a link to it? Oh, you also didn't tell people to use a copy adapter to flash his ECU when he has no experience at all of flashing ECU's when the said adapters brick 10% of any ecu's they plug into not to mention the damn thing is a HUGE copyright infringement and most forums ban you for even suggesting people use them!!

Oh- did you notice he said 'Indian' spec VRS? What would that say to you? Where would you say he his based with an 'Indian' spec VRS?

I posted a link to that film to highlight the fact that sizes bigger than 1m square are available.

And I assume the Indian chap with an Indian spec vrs in from India, but he wants a UK spec vrs map which I offered to send him

So you sent a link to crap film mass produced in China that doesn't adhere correctly and looks terrible- good call. Maybe you should post a link to the quality films you come across that you've used from decent suppliers in the US that come in 1.5m for 7.50 and are readily available?

And you offered to send a map then told him to use a clone MPPS- a copied device with a bad rep that breaks a company's IP and also patent copyright!

Call the police. I might get locked up for offering advice which you don't agree with. Tell them a bad man on the Internet is offering bad advice and it's causing you emotional distress.

Agreed- cloned software is illegal. Every idiot knows that, but while it's readily available on eBay etc people will use it, mostly without issue

Causes me distress? Lol. I don't like Bodgers especially those giving advice that'll screw up cars - pure and simple
