Slight Clunk and now slight binding noise

Featured Replies

Hello There,

Apologies if this is a duplicate thread but I can't find anyone with a similar problem.

I have had a slight intermittent clunk on my Mk1 Fabia for about 6 months noise.  It seems to be getting worse.

It sounds like a hollow metallic sound which reverberates through the floor of the car.  My girlfriend says it sounds like it is coming from under her chair.

I think it is coming from the front end nearside suspension somewhere but I am not a mechanic.  I've prodded and pulled at things around the suspension and everything seems tight, although I haven't put it on a ramp with a pry bar.

However this evening I had a couple of clunks and then a sort of gentle metallic binding noise, before driving home very slowly for the last 100 yards or so.  Steering generally feels ok but I can feel a slight notch in the steering if I sit and dry steer it from side to side.

Any clues?  Sorry I know this is a bit vague.  Bearing...Bushes?

Anyway I'm going to take it in to my garage (who are normally great)  but sometimes they don't find a problem only for a problem to manifest itself later on.

Thanks
Doug
