False Temp Readings on Dash

Featured Replies

Hi My 2001 2.0 Elegance hardly ever displays anything like the correct temperature. I'm pretty sure the car doesn't take this info and do anything with it but I am constantly being told it is minus temps and was even in the summer. Very rarely it gives something I could believe to be accurate but this is a 1 in 20 occurrence.

Where should I look to correct this and is it a cost effective exercise? If its lots of dough and effort I'll try and ignore it if its not telling the car to do something with this duff info.

I assume you means exterior temperature display on the dash.

I had exactly the same symptoms on a previous car (not VAG) and it was the exterior temperature sensor mounted at the bottom of the drivers door mirror. The sensor was a diode. Replaced it and it was a fix.

On the Octy I believe the sensor is behind the passenger side pull off grill in the front bumper. These often come loose so it may just be a break in the wire.

What does the temperature readout on the climate control say?

I don't know if the sensor is also used by the engine management to set fuelling but if so you need to get it fixed. I am sure someone on here will advise.

I'm pretty sure it matches what is said on the dash but will check when I use it later and report back.

Yep the same except we get a X.Xc reading on dash and Xc reading on climatronic and climatronic rounds it up.

Sounds like the sensor behind the bumper.  That sensor only does the climatronic temp, it isn't used by the engine/ecu at all.
