Drivers Door catch

Featured Replies

I have a Mk1 (1999) Octavia estate. My drivers door won't stay shut when closed. The catch mechanism  rotates without pulling the handle, so does not grip the catch loop in the door frame.

Is this a catch mechanism change, if so where do I get a new one. I am keeping the door shut with elastic strap (to keep out the rain) so I can't use the car. Help needed urgently as I have a wedding to go too soon.

You probably need a new door lock. It could be that one of the pull wires to the mechanism is stuck but you won't find that out without removing the door card. Look for someone who is breaking a Mk1 Octavia.

Took door apart and found that its the release cable that is fraying which is stopping the catch to return properly. Got them on Ebay for £6.50 hope they are easy to replace. :whew:

Is it the cable from the inside door handle? if it is there quite easy, just a bit fiddly at the latch end.
