Dealership Cold Call to Buy Car

Featured Replies

Just had a call from my local dealership looking to 'update details' but ended with them wanting to buy my car as they only have one currently in their stock and is a popular car!  Not sure if this is a ploy to get me in the door to look at a new car or whether they have someone who is after a vRS of similar spec to mine!

Didn't mention prices or anything and wanted to see the car despite it only recently having been in for a service!

sounds like a sales tactic

I am certain it was not just to update their details.  Just not sure whether it was aimed at just getting me in the door to change car or as they have a potential buyer after a specific spec and aiming to kill two birds with one stone!

Go long and see what they offer you. It could be a sales ploy as above but you have nothing to loose and can always say no thanks. I'd go just to be nosey!

ask yourself a question, who is.going to gain from this?

i bet it won't be you

Surely, it depends if you are inclined too sell?

Sales ploy, local Fiat dealer tried this with me a few times with my last car.

They have all day to think ways up to get people through the door, it's their job after all. They have sown that seed and got you thinking, which is exactly their intention IMO.

Go in and have some fun with it.

Demand a fully specced Mk3 Octavia vrs in straight swap and refuse to leave until you get it as they have wasted your time otherwise.

Drink all the free coffee and biscuits you can stomach, then just before they kick you out, tell them you would like an oil consumption test conducting!

Managers occasion used to try and make us do that. You look at the PCP and loan agreements and see who is coming to an end, you then ring up the person and try to offer them a 'great deal'. Sort of 'warm calling'. We hated it nearly as much as the customers

If they want it that much, theyll pay a Premium for it. And if they dont, your back where you started, but thats not a bad thing either

I'd go, just in the knowledge it was ME in the driving seat :D

That's how I ended up with my last car before my Monte, salesman rang me up for a follow up courtesy call 18 mths down the line!

Went in, he showed me a car I might like, then gave me the spiel.

I said, give me a straight swap or I'm not interested as I wasn't looking for a new one at the time although I did like the car he was showing me, 'wouldn't be able to do it' he said so I left it at that.

2 days passed then he rang again, 'give us your car and £100 and you can have it for the same payments' so I played cool, couldn't get it any better but he threw in a free service when it was due, mats and a tankful of fuel.

Did the same with my Monte, my old car and £100 deposit with the payments staying the same, did it all via email this time before I went in for a test drive.

Play them at their own game, play it cool then tell them what you want if you're interested then leave them to sweat it out, most of the time they'll give in and do it so long as it come over as weak.

You've got nowt to lose, you might just be surprised.

Wish someone would ring me to buy my GT86! Can't shift it!

Haha shameful ploy by me there ;)

WBAC contacted me (following a recent quote) to say my car was in demand, so their offer had increased.

Yeah, up from £8300 to £8330...

BUT, maybe, just maybe sporty looking (Monte) and sporty actual (VRS) Fabias are in demand...?
