Take care with your Blackvue camera connection plug!

Featured Replies

Just had a bit of a boo boo this morning!

Plugged camera in after downloading some footage from the card, and after a little drive realised it hadn't turned on, and there was a vague odd smell that I later realised was the wiring getting hot and beginning to cook the insulation.  What I'd done was be a bit careless when plugging and instead of the pin in the camera going in to the hole in the middle of the plug, it had gone to the side (bit fiddly plugging in with rear view mirror base in the way) so it was short circuiting by pushing the middle against the side of the plug.....

So, at the side of the road I managed to get the camera disconnected and manouvere the pin in the plug away from the wall of the plug, using a biro tip....  Once it was safe, I was able to get on with my day and once home, using an electrical screwdriver, manipulate the fitting so the hole was again sat in the middle, and resembled a circle, not a squashed flat bit of metal.....

Rule of thumb = take care when plugging your blackvue back in!  Ensure it's lined up straight before pushing home (as the actress said to the bishop! :D)

First time I've heard of that, so thankfully not a common issue.

Thanks for the heads up though Jason.

I am both not surprised by either what you say, or the fact that I did what I did. :D

usually I will line the camera up in the housing, plug in, then push it the remaining inch to click in to place.  For some reason this morning, I decided to plug in after clicking home, and that made it difficult, hence what happened.  Live and learn!

My problem has expanded now - The car keeps blowing fuse 10 (radio etc) so clearly something is amiss, and I need to probably redo all the wiring for the blackvue.

Make sure the end of the power lead is OK.

If you abuse the plug/pin that goes into the Blackvue the little plastic seperator can come out that keeps the positive and negative parts from touching and shorting out.
