Used tyres. Any market for them?

Featured Replies

I need two new tyres on the VRS and want to swap to Michelins. The thing is the rear Continental Sport Contact 2's are as new with 6mm of tread left.

It seems a shame to just dump them but I'm not sure if there is a market for them. Would £100 for the pair be a fair price on eBay or am I best to accept a few quid from a local part worn tyre dealer?

Definitely a market. eBay them or join Freedom on here :)

That's a waste to dump them, or give them a way. With 6mm (a photo included with a depth gauge always helps buyers) I'd say £100 was fair.

Definaty a market. I sold some budget tyres on here a few months back no problems but I didn't want much for them.

I sold three Conty sport contact 2's a couple of years ago for £100 on eBay. They were 205/55/16 taken of the wheels I bought for winter tyres. Winning bid was £80 for 2 but I let him have the extra one for another £20 (4th had a bulge in side wall so I wasn't prepared to sell it)

Presume they're 225/40/18 from the vRS? So there'll be a decent market for that size, its pretty popular.

Personally if i was you id keep them on the car...yes its good practice to have all four tyres of the same make and model.

but come on if its on the rear axel or front as a pair its fine. anyone who says your likely to get yourself into trouble on the road cant drive worth a **** if thats the case. Even if i was tracking it id still be ok with different brands.

the worst thing your going to have is a little lift off oversteer which is fun the last time i checked....

Yep, worth mentioning. For my 'summer' setup I have PS3 on the back and Pirelli PZero at the front, currently.

I like the same all-round too, from a completeness point of view, but my findings have been that as long as you have good quality rubber at each end, you're very unlikely to have any problems at all, or notice a difference.

Keep them as spares, you never know when you might need them.

As long as you have matching tyres on each axle, you'll be alright.

There is plenty of market for them, after all we do get a lot of part worns come over from Germany if I remember correctly as their tyre rules are stricter than ours. Why would you want to get rid of the contis? Put them on the front and the new Michelins on the rear and you will be fine, as long as you have radials all round then you shouldn't have a problem with difference in manufacturers, I have had 3 Michelins and an Avon on mine for the past few years after wrecking the sidewall on one when the car was not that old and have not had a problem so far.

Pothole has left me with x1 good Conti SC2 (5mm tread left) after I replaced both fronts with PS3, other has a sidewall bulge so is u/s.

I'll try the for sale section and see if anyone within striking distance wants an odd to make up a x5 set. I already have a good spare.
