Oh no, tyres again! Toyo Proxes T1-R Performance Road Tyres

Featured Replies

Everyone seems to go mad about them, i think it's just because they stretch well.

If the tyre rating system is anything to go by they stack up pretty poorly TBH, mainly on wet grip and noise. Not so much fuel rating because lower profile tyres like these struggle to get above a D rating anyway. This system may well be flawed of course.

I'm sure some people will come along who swear by them, in the end its up to you.

Mine were good in the dry...OK...ish in the wet

BUT my biggest gripe was the road noise they created

I've got proxie 4 on mine. As grippy as the t1r but slightly harder compound so they last longer. Brilliant in the dry but slide in the wet if you drive like a tool.

I have these on my Octavia Tsi Vrs and I'm quite impressed . I run them a couple of Psi above the recommended pressures and I think they run better with no uneven wear

They are good tyres in the dry, alright in the wet. I ran them on my old Almera GTi and was able to go through a set of fronts in 7k miles.

Also the performance drops off a lot as the tread gets lower. I had no complaints though as they did I wanted them to and lasted a few laps round the nordschleife.

For the price you'd pay for them four I'm paying for 2x Michelin PS 3

Same here. I run them at 35 all round.

Snap

I had them all round on mine and thought they were fine. I've since changed the fronts to Hankook and they seem much better. Just got to change the rears now.

I'm running them too, nice compromise between value and performance. A lot of people prefer the Uniroyal Rainsports, depends on your budget really.

I think fabia's are to heavy for them IMO the sidewalls are too soft, I ran them in my old 106 quicksilver and I said I would never get a different set of tyres, tried rainsports on my Fabia and I hated them, both have soft sidewalls so I didn't bother with the T1-R's, running Parada's now and I'm very impressed, not as bad as everyone makes out to be in the wet either although I think it's standing water they are bad in. £66 a corner for 205/45 r17's as well bargain

Absolutely god awful tyre!!!

I had some of these years ago when I had a Mk1 2 litre Clio. I got a 'bargain' at Demon Tweeks on them. I was appalled at how bad they were. They weren't brilliant in the dry to be honest, and in the wet they were awful. As is said above, the sidewalls are extremely soft, meaning that the outer edges of the tyre wears really quickly. I vowed never to buy any ever again, and I haven't yet!

I fitted another Clio hybrid I had with Parada Spec II's, and the dry grip was phenomenal in them! Ok, they're not much cop in the rain, but I don't tend to drive hard when it's wet anyway.

I now have Parada's on the 17" Spiders that I run on the Fabia, and once again they're awesome in the dry and poor in the wet. I've still got them on over the winter, and it's difficult to put much power down if I'm honest, especially since going full stage 2. For next winter I'm probably going to get some Rainsports all round, as I've had these before and they're a fantastic all-round tyre. In an ideal world you'd have something like Michelin PE3's, as they're meant to be an excellent tyre no matter what the weather - but they're mega money.

So for the money, I'd ditch the Toyo's and buy a set of Parada's so long as it's a summer tyre that you're after. Another plus to them is that they look EPIC sat on your alloys!

Always worked well on the Fabia Mk1 I found, but then that was 6/7 yrs ago, and tyres have moved on and other models come out etc.

As for other people's feedback on them, tyres are often chassis dependant and I don't think they work half as well on the Octy Mk2, for whatever reason.

Surprised Toyo haven't come out with a direct replacement for the T1-R really, it's been around a long, long time.

The T1 Sport probably makes more sense, but isn't available in the OEM Fabia Mk1 vRS size:

Toyo proxies are **** mate I wrecked a set in month and grip is awful I had budget tyres which had more grip then these lol

Then there was something wrong with the ones you had, simple as that.

Not a chance they should be worse than ANY budget brand, not in a month of Sundays.

From my personal experience of T1R's, then I'm afraid I'm with Dav on this one. They really are shocking! I wouldn't say they were worse than a budget tyre, but certainly not much better!!

Might depend on the driver then, and what you're asking them to do. It's all that remains, if we're removing a dodgy production batch from the equation.

I ran them on various Fabias, of varying performance levels, 2005-07 and always found them to be predictable at the limit, grippy but with a pretty decent wear rate.

Everyone's different I suppose.

I wasnt a fan, didnt feel anything special, not as bad as a budget though, they wore quickly. Paradas seem much better for me.

I bought my last set of Toyo T1-Rs when i fitted the 17's in March 2012 and only had to change the fronts last October having done x4 track sessions and plenty of miles in just over 2 1/2 years. Never had any issues with them and only changed the fronts to Hankook as i wanted to try them after hearing good things.

These are probably my favourite type lol. I used to run these and loved them.  Lasted for ages.  I used to buy proper budget and they'd last me 3 months max, these lasted me the best past of a year.  Also had rainsport after the Toyo's and don't rate them at all.  I thought they wore super quick.

Ive got them in the front dry grip is ok, wet grip is poor they spin all the time and im not even mapped. Won't have them again.

Can't go wrong with hankook's or kumho's for similar price really.

Hankooks have been my choice for a couple of years and worked well, just exploring options...

  • 2 months later...

I've just bought a couple of Hankook v12's :) love the tread pattern, had them before of my previous car and loved them so much. I've gone for the 87 strength wall too so, fingers crossed I'm pleased with the outcome.. major service at Horton Skoda Lincoln and two tyres in a week.. yay :@  :wall:

I ran T1R's on a mapped Octy 2, they went up snow covered hills than 4x4's couldn't (it was a 1.9 with DSG so I was as shocked as the locals at the pub at the bottom of a large hill who normally enjoy watching cars get stuck on 'snow days'), gripped well in the wet and dry, the only issue was they didn't last amazingly well on the front vs the Primacy HP/PC2 but they cost a lot less.
