Hi,

I know you don't buy these cars for their fuel efficiency but would be interested in what you guys get in the real world? I have had my authorisation from the mrs to buy a Vrs as a second car for me to commute to work, which is about 15 miles each way, half fast A12 main road, half into a town in normal slow moving traffic.

Tell the Mrs you will get 40+ mpg ! Then get to the for sale section and snap up Fears mint mk1 VRS. Real world on your commute probably looking at 25 mpg. All comes down to driving style.

25-30mpg around town. Sometimes as low as 10-15 if im having fun

On that journey if you take it easy, 30-35mpg.

Around 30 as per my sig, entirely stop start traffic. On a run, 40 average is not impossible.

Since having mine I have been impressed with the fuel economy when driving nicely with the kids in the car however... when the boot goes down it stands to reason it will drink. But not that bad really I find :-)

The head says a 1.9 tdi Oct elegance but can't seem to find a decent one local to me. Bit of a dilema.

Tbh i find my vrs no more expensive to fuel than my 1.6 octavia before it.
