Detailing Addicts Anonymous - The Wax Poverty Support Club

Featured Replies

Thought I'd start a thread for confessions and general detailing group therapy. If you've ever stood outside cleaning you car from 9am to 9pm as neighbours come and go shaking their heads at you, this is the thread for you. If you own more car cleaning products than male grooming products, this is for you. If you own any car cleaning product you have owned for more than three months and only ever got round to opening the bottle/tub to smell the contents, this thread is for you :)

Please start your posts as follow:

"Hi my name's Sparkly and I am a detailing addict."

It's been 7 days that I have been away from home and although my kit bag is full to bursting following the pre-Christmas sales I have still managed this week to Internet order the following for my return

1 x Waxamomo Rugged Rhubarb Hybrid Wax 250ml

1 x Bouncers Sherbert Fizz Wax 200ml

1 x Bouncers Looking Sweet Wheel Wax

1 x Dodo Juice Banana Armour hard wax 250ml

1 x Dodo Juice Light Fantastic soft wax 250ml

1 x Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical Spray 250ml

Also had my first waxybox delivered at month end.

They were all bargains I swear, but it would take me many years to use all this, even doing as many friends and neighbours cars as I possibly could.

My name's Sparkly and I am detailing addict.

I am not an addict really, however once i am engrained in a job, there is not a lot that distracts me.  Focus suddenly sharpens, and that's it!

I really need to sort out my kit though!  :(   I'm up to three rolling toolboxes and two man bags, as well as other stuff....

That's addict talk if ever I heard it :D

I'm a Junkie!!
BUT

I don't buy products for the sake of it...but I do have a fair few Waxes!

I'm a sucker for a deal and will go head first when the offers pop up!  Such as the £18 Autoglym kit that popped up in December time.  There was no way I could let that one go!  :D

I do like a bargain

If I can get products that do the same job as a more expensive one I will

I'm a little bit of an addict my garage is full of more waxes than I dare to count, I'd say I have at least 10/15 bottles-tubs of wax I've not even opened as yet other than to sniff them. (I've read all the packaging and a million reviews of them though)

Over the past 2 weeks I've spent about £180+ ish on sealants polishes qds and other cleaning products, (the wife has no idea)

Over the past 2 week I bought.

CG blacklight

CG jetseal109

CG V7

Dodo juice aplicators

Woolley mammoth drying towel

3x purple monster drying towels

5ltrs of sonax extreme BSD

Collinite 845

A couple of new buckets

A sheepskin washmit

Armour all leather cleaner

Mir interior cleaner

I really need to get into the garage and put some of my unused or not prerfred waxes on to the swap shop. Sounds like sparkly is in the same position.

I'm by no means a detailer, I just get so much pleasure out of making cars look the best I can. I find it very theroputic!

It gets me out of the house, and like Jason, I couldn't let the AG deal go unnoticed either. SWMBO encouraged me as well, but she's got Yorkshire blood in her.

My thoughts exactly.

But how will you ever know they are better unless you try them???

I'm a Junkie!!

BUT

Neither do I!

I can rationalise all my purchases (to myself  )

I have a lot of products. But I must admit some are terrible products before I knew anything about detailing. Slowly building my 'real' detailing kit now. With the addition of a snow foam lance and a few other bits.

Theres a lot of snobbery attached to detailing products...Go on DW and see!!

Take All Purpose Cleaner (APC) for example

They ALL do the same job and ALL as effectively as others BUT All have a different price

I use Sainsburys APC @ 50p for 500cl...So £5 a litre...There is no other APC out there that is better...So why pay more?

Did at one stage have a massive cupboard full and was a regular on DW - trying out new products etc but have now very much calmed down since converting to GTechniq. As I've mentioned in another thread, the range works very well for me and gets me the results that I want and at a good price point. These days I just don't have the time or inclination to spend 8 hours detailing/cleaning the car -spending time with the kids is more important. ALso I'm no longer interested in trying new products.

I did go through most of the CHemical Guys range and still have a few part bottles of stuff kicking around (perhaps I should chuck them in the swaps section!). AG products are still very much in my arsenal of products especially SRP and Fast Glass - these you cannot beat for value for money.

Svend did very kindly send me a sample of G-Wash and after running out of that and C2v3 the other weekend have just re-ordered with a 7.5% discount and free next day delivery from Ultimate Finish

I have just bought a Nilfisk 110 from Cleanstore,

An Autobrite HD SnowFoam lance with Autobrite Magifoam Snowfoam from Ishine Car Care,

Ez-Detail Go Ez Brush with Bilberry Wheel Cleaner,

Meguiars Ultimate wash/wax with a Lambswool mit from Clean Your Car.

I have next week off, so i'll be able to give the car a good going over.

p.s. just to say thanks to everyone's info posted thats enabled me to make a half decent start on buying these products, cheers.

Good luck with the weather

Don't forget pictures

Mandatory

Yup we need pictures!

Nice one..The best drying towel there is!!

I used my Woolley mammoth for the first time today, what an impressive thing did the whole car with it, and so soft too.

It did leave a few bits of fluff on the car but it was the first time I've used it so to be expected I guess.

I also used the new monster MF towels gotta be the softest MF I've used really impressed with them, I won't use any other MF after using these.

I've been a Gtechniq fan for sometime and have converted to Bilt Hamber from CarPro for decon use (degrease, de-tar, de-iron) so I don't really need anything,,,,,, but that hasn't stopped me from buying and buying. I buy at least 10 new MFs a month, I have two wet'dry vacs, two portable pressure washers, two sets of wheel woolies, 20+ brushes, two snow foam lances, etc, etc... Occassionally I try another brand to see how the market is progressing but always go back to Gtechniq.

I sometimes pop out to get and sandwich and see a neighbours car within 25 metres either side of my front door and see how dirty it is and quickly turn around and get the wash kit out and wash the car (the neighbours all know me and know that if they park near my house and the car is dirty, its fair game) or have a friend pop round for me to clean their car only for me to do the next one that parks behind it or in front. I've even jumped on a Royal Mail van, a plumbers van, an electricians van, etc... purely because it was dirty and was there (all drivers were asked first of course) and sometimes get through three cars a day with the maximum so far of six (five cars and one motorbike) one day.

Winter is a downer as the weather often stops play and have a few cars lined up from Carlisle up to Lockerbie, rollon the good weather.

Its an expensive hobby but aren't they all.
