Stereo Upgrade

Featured Replies

I have a 97 Mk2 Octavia Vrs fitted with a Stream Stereo. I am thinking of upgrading and wanted to know if anyone out there has any tips / ideas.

What's your budget? That will help people help you.

The Columbus is the obvious choice as it's fully compatible and has a load of features (sat nav, hard disk etc). Then there is the Bolero which is the new version of Swing.

I have the Kenwood DNX521DAB which sounds amazing compared to the Columbus (in my opinion) and has DAB and iPod compatibility as standard but it's pricey.

I'm sure others will give more suggestions of units that I have no experience of.

i guess you mean 07?

Do you want to keep the headunit integration or do you mind loosing the headunit integration?

If you dont mind loosing it then you can get a very high quality headunit for much much less than something like the columbus or kenwood model mentioned above

My budget is around £500 and I don't mind losing the head unit integration. I have read about battery drain and canbus issues. Just wanted something that I can plug & play.

I did mean 07 reg.

if its just the headunit you want to change i'd recomend the following:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/head-units/cd-players/pioneer-deh-80prs

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctssk002-2-can-bus-steering-control-adaptor

or

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctssk003-2-stalk-adapter-for-skoda

(double check which by asking car audio direct)

You will also need the facia adaptor aswell. Make sure you get the correct one and when you get a replacement trim for the cente console make sure its correct for the trim you have.

this sound slike a really good recommendation.

Good audiphile sound, pre-out rcas, equaliser and a ability to switch off internal amp, ability to run iphone AND hard-drive.

Wondering if I can retain my track/volume buttons on the steering wheel as well as the cubby-hole/blanking plate as a replacement for my swing on 11 pate fabia vrs ?

You should keep the controlls, thats what the little box with the wiring also does. If you want to make sure connects2 are very helpful

thanks mate...went ot a local installer who highly praised the DEH-80-PRS. Even got a price match, brining the  cost down by another £30-50.

Hope it should sort out all my SQ issues, but looking at stuff on youtube, I feel daunted by the level of options available, and hope I can get the right settings instead of constantly fumbling around.

Look at audiosources ANS810 or DNS810, looks factory, retains a lot of the factory features (rear park, ops, climate features if your car supports it, maxidot integration is all there I believe, as is the IPOD and USB feature.. satnav too) price around 400 quid with none of the battery drain issues... Ive had the ANS810 for nearly a year now and its been brilliant.. well pleased, just wish they would hurry up the OBD functions!!

For less money the 80prs is a much much much better unit in terms of audio quality

About to order the ANS810 direct from Audiosources -  they've quoted me about £220 delivered - can't really go wrong given it's a straight plug and play.

Suspect I may need a new fascia but will hopefully find the right part number on one of the threads about it on here.

Good choice fella, still enjoying mine a year on!! Check what firmware version you are on when it arrives though, I'll remind myself how to do it and let you know.. I've still got the bag my replacement facia came in with the part number on it so assuming you have the same dual zone climate then the part number I have is what you need.. I'll post that up a bit later for you.. Think it was about £19 at the dealers
