Under Seat Storage Retrofit Advice (Fabia II vRS)

Featured Replies

I've already trawled the forum but couldn't find a definitive answer, so - a question for anyone that's retrofitted the under seat storage boxes to a vRS....

Do the standard ones fit properly?

Right (part number - 6Y0 881 578 A47H)
Left (part number - 6Y0 881 577 A47H)

Our local dealer says:
These don't fit the vRS because of the sports seats.  A newer part will soon be available that's less deep, but isn't available to order yet.

Not that I don't trust them  :wonder:  but I thought some folks on here had successfully retrofitted this in a vRS, or does it rub / interfere with the height adjustment?

Many thanks!

First time I hear this and I smell bull****. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Mine fit fine, just make sure you have the right tool to undo the seat bolts as you can strip them very easily with the wrong bit.  Can't confirm the exact part numbers but they are generic as far as I know and even when ordering the car new they are available as an option.

I'll take an educated guess and call BS too. I retrofitted LHD drive one for the Roomster (admittedly my seats are far from 'sport') but I can't see how it would affect something underneath the seat?

I hope they fit as that's what I've ordered and had a phone call from the garage saying they've arrived today. I'm 99.9% sure they will fit as the seats are fitted with the correct cover panel at the moment (the one that's the same shape and size as the storage box). Height adjusters aren't just fitted to the sports seats. The seat frame is identical, it's the foam that's different.

For reference the part numbers have changed and are now 6Y0881577B47H and 6Y0881578B47H.

Phil,

Hi. I am thinking of the same for my VRS. Where did you purchase them from? And is it a DIY jobbie? even if requires that special tool

Cheers

Purchased from my local Skoda garage for about £15+VAT each (I've just got them but he gave me the wrong receipt so that price is within a pound).

I'm intending it to be a DIY job but then again on previous vehicles that I've owned I've regarded engine rebuilds, clutch and gearbox replacements as DIY jobs. This guide http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/169223-mk1-underseat-box/ should show you and it looks fairly simple.  Of note I always leave the vehicle for at least 15 minutes after disconnecting the battery before working on anything associated with airbags as this ensures that electrical charge has dissipated to a level where if something goes wrong it won't deploy an airbag or seatbelt pretensioner while your working on it.

I've just fitted the passenger side one. It fits fine and doesn't foul on the height mechanism.  Took about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the feedback and update. Likewise, I purchased a set during the week and fitted both driver and passenger side today. Both fit perfectly with no problems in a 2013 vRS. Only problem I had had was the lack of fixing kit, so had to raid the odds and sods tin in the garage to find some screws that fitted.

So yeah, our dealer's parts guy was clearly confused. He said he'll call us when the special storage boxes that fit the sports seats are available to order. That'll be an interesting conversation.

Has anyone got the blanking plate that they can take a picture of so I can see what screw I'm trying to take out as I haven't got an M10 splined key so I'm trying to do it lying upside down in the rear footwell and reaching underneath the seat lol

You can plenty of height using the seat height adjuster, it's just difficult to see which screw is the one that secures the blanking plate.

Not to worry, I've discovered which one it is, now to see if I can get the box fitted :D

Right, fitted one of my storage boxes last w/e, couldn't do the second one as we had to use 1 of the long screws to secure the 1st box.

We discovered that if you have a very flexible friend (in my case my mate Nik) and seats with height adjustment you do not need to take the seats out of the car, so no need to disconnect the battery or any wiring or buy an M10 Splined Bit!

The boxes are handed so for the UK where the vehicle are Right-Hand Drive, the Left-Hand Box fits under the passenger seat and the Right-Hand Box fits under the driver seat, The blanking plates are also handed.

To fit both boxes you require:-

Left-Hand Storage Box 6Y0881577B47H x 1

Right-Hand Storage Box 6Y0881578B47H x 1

Fixing Screws WHT001867 x 6

You will also need a T20 screwdriver and I also used aT20 Allen Key and a good light source.

So Left hand first, raise the seat to its highest setting and bring it forward to a position where you can reach the front whilst laying in the rear footwell, the blanking plate is secured by 3 clips on its LH side and 1 T20 screw and 1 clip on its RH side.

Fixing Screw & Clip

You will note that this screw fixes up into a metal bracket on the seat frame, this screw is not re-used.

Remove the screw and push the blanking plate forward on its left and right edges to release the clips and the blanking plate will push out.

Keeping the seat on its highest setting move the seat back a little so that you can look into the space under the seat from the front and at the front on the RH Side (as you look straight on at the seat ) you will see another screw that screws up into a metal bracket on the seat frame that holds the front of the RH Side of the plastic moulding for the seat and remove that screw (You will reuse this screw) on the LH Side (as you look straight on at the seat ) you will see a screw at the top facing you that secures the LH Side of the plastic moulding for the seat and you need to remove this screw (this screw is not re-used).

Now take the storage box and insert it from the front making sure that the 3 plastic clips on the RH Side clip into the plastic side moulding and also ensure that the clip on the LH Side clips fully and then taking 1 of the longer screws you purchased secure the LH Side of the box and the LH Seat moulding into the bracket in the seat frame (this is probably the trickiest part as you have to push in and push up so that the holes in the plastic parts align with the hole in the seat frame and you need the longer screw as the original is too short to go through both pieces of plastic and screw into the seat frame. Now make sure that the box is still clipped in on its RH Side and using the screw that came out of the RH Side re-fix the RH Side of the box and the front of the RH Side seat moulding from underneath up into the seat frame (this is fiddly because there isn't a lot of room but it can be done.

That's the front of the box now secure now all that remains is to take 2 more of the longer screws and using these secure the back of the box up through the plastic into the pre-prepared holes in the seat frame.

Fitting the drivers side (RH) box the process is the same however the LH Side becomes the RH side and the RH Side becomes the LH Side as the boxes are handed.

If you haven't got a flexible mate with small hands who doesn't mind laying upside down in you car you will probably need to take the seat out! or maybe I could hire you mine :D

mine didn't come with screws WTF ?

Thomas, the screws are not part of the boxes and have to be ordered as a additional items and are priced per screw!
