Boost gauge query

Featured Replies

The buzzing is sadly a trait of a mechanical gauge that needs inline filters to stop it. I changed my mech gauge for an electrical gauge which turns the boost pressure into an electrical signal via a small box that fits into the boost gauge setup, and these don't buzzing at all.

Thanks mate, could you point me in the direction of an electrical gauge so I know what I'm looking for?

Mine doesnt buzz?

Mine doesnt buzz?

Do you feel left out?

Mine buzzed quite loud and the needle flickered really bad but I got a small inline filter and it seemed to reduce it but after much searching on eBay I ended up shoving some cotton wool in the hose and a few cable ties. All this does is smooth the air flow and stop the buzzing and flickering. Mines spot on now.

You can also get a air flow valve from a pet shop that you'd use in a fish tank that's basically just a screw and you adjust it until it stops but you can really only get them online and it was easier to get the inline filter and it was only a few quid so I went for that.

Also might be worth me saying my boost gauge is a cheap one off eBay, those your looking at are quite a good one so you probably won't have a problem anyway. I could quite fancy that one myself but I'd cry paying nearly £50 for a boost gauge lol

That's my one think it was only about £20 and it came with the holder and some pipe too. For the price of it I can't fault it and now it's mapped I like it that it goes into the red on full boost lol.

Where did you run the wire Kyle? Is there a grommet it can go through into the dash like ok the other side?

Take the glove box out and there's a grommet there then just run it across the bulkhead to the top boost pipe or egr delete if you've got one fitted.

I fancy a boost guage for the same reason tbh.

Where have people mounted theirs?  That one above looks a little DIY, and though it works i would prefer to mount mine a little more factory looking. Just looking for ideas really.

I didnt know about the buzzing, that was a worthwhile piece of information.

Where do the electronic ones 'plug in'?

In sure my mate put a fag filter in his pipe somewhere to stop the buzzing.

You can do Dan it's the same as using cotton wool it just smooths the air flow to stop the buzzing and flickering

Nice one Kyle, I will get a boost gauge for mine eventually :)

That cheap one I've got is ok if you don't mind it lights up white. I was going to put it on my steering wheel surround but I'm glad I didn't as it's quite bright at night so I like it down there out of the way and it was easy to run the wires to the stereo

I want mine in the A pillar ideally. If you run the wires to where the side light switch is - there is no reason why you couldn't dim the boost gauge with the dimming switch.

That's what I did to mine on my old focus :)

Thats a good point i hadnt considered actually, the brightness may be an issue if its right in your face.

The only problem with that is there isn't a A pillar pod available for our car otherwise I'd of had it there. People have made their own but I wasn't arsed making one when for £20 you got that pod. I didn't want to screw that into my dash so where it is now I can remove it and you'd never know it was there

That's why I'm hoping to make something of my own :) then I can get it flocked or something :)

I couldn't be bothered doing that and I'd have to get the others flocked to match as one pillar flocked would be odd. I'm still thinking about getting this though

It's for a mk4 golf so it should be the same as ours shouldn't it?? It's only £30 from awesome and would look alot more oem. My mate had this style on his EVO and I really liked it although I might get a green gauge like Tom posted if I go for this.

If you do buy that Kyle and it fits etc, post a picture of it, that looks really good!
Where do you get them from?

From awesome gti. You can also get this one for £30 too but I think I prefer the offset one. If it will definitely fit I will get one. I might email them now and ask

There is a local lad with one of those centre ones, I will ask him where he got his from if you like?

Yeah please Dan if you can just ask if it's a golf mk4 one then I'll get one ordered

Mine is wired to my dimmer dan, pretty straight forward.
