Cambelt advice...

Featured Replies

Sorry to start a new thread, ive found most answers ive needed by searching by need an answered tailored to my circumstances if that makes sense!

Just bought myself a fabia vrs 2007 and pick it up next week.

With the service history its got full skoda history from DM Keith. I phoned them to check this and everything was as it should be.

The car has done 40,000 miles, and had the cambelt done in Feb 2012 at 25,000 miles. However, the water pump wasn't changed.

My question is, I shall be doing the cambelt probably in a years time so will definitely do the water pump then. But, is the water pump that is on the car ok for another year? is there anything else I need to change?

Looking to get a remap so didn't know if that would affect any replies.

Thanks,

Ben.

it be fine m8

probably be ok. if you can spare the cash get a pump anyway but don't lose any sleep over it.

Bickerton skoda did an offer of a genuine belt and tensioner kit for just under 100. I'm sure someone will come along and comment on them.

Roller, tensioner, belt & water pump just to be sure

Mine lasted the first 8 years of it's life on the same water pump (OEM). Changed it with the last cambelt for peace of mind, but I wouldn't worry if I were you. Change it next time.

Mine's still on the original water pump, as the previous owner never had it done. The garage I use said to just keep an eye on the coolant level, as it will start to lose coolant before it goes.

So far it hasn't lost any coolant in the year I've had it, so all must be good. I'll get it done on the next cambelt change, just for piece of mind anyway. That might not be for a couple of years yet though.
