Hi Guys,

 

I have a LE Mk1 Fab VRS (BLT) 110k on the clock

 

Yesterday I was driving down the motorway when the car started shaking/vibrating under accel. it only happens between idle and 2kRPM. At first I thought this was the DMF but I'm not so sure now. The car has had a new clutch and DMF at 80k odd,  30k ago (before I bought it but have receipts from Skoda main dealer) it has also had its timing belt done (again before I bought it at 100k - again main dealer receipts) - so I bought it thinking - well theres 2 things I don't need to worry about!

 

over the past 2 days my fuel ecconomy has been poor averaging 40mpg where as a week ago it would be doing 52mpg

 

I got it home and can see that the engine is shaking an awful lot while at idle - I have read a few threads saying to try turning the AC on etc - doesn't make a difference in this case.

 

I have a fault code reader - not a vagcom but an ebay jobbie - there are no errors on the engine

 

To me it looks like it could be an engine mount (rear one) - is this the symptoms you expect to see with an engine mount? however there is no clunk from the GB when changing and the GB is as smooth as I'd expect. There is no lumpy clutch peddle - it is super smooth too.

 

My throttle position sensor has been playing up and I have been meaning to change it- it sometimes idles high until I touch the throttle - could this be a cause?

 

My EGR might need cleaning - I have ran redex derv before and it makes a difference to the smoke coming out the back and the flat spot that seems to affect BLTs.

 

It still seems to pull strongly however I obviously haven't been blasting it since I discovered the problem.

 

If anyone lives Wiltshire way with a vagcom can we check the injectors?

I think I would start by putting things right you know are a problem.

So many sensors on these cars it can mislead you into thinking it's one thing, then turns out to be another.

As first sentence then drop it into a garage you trust, to find-out exactly what is wrong instead of second guessing.

also saying 'take it to a garage' kind of defies the point in this forum doesn't it... 

 

obviously i could take it to a garage... but i'm a fairly competent home mechanic and i can change most easy to access parts i'd rather have a go first and admit defeat

I was thinking it could be as simple as bad diesel or my fuel filter needing a change...

Hi, if possible contact someone with VCDS/vagcom to carry out live data logging.

This will give you an insight into the engines health, boost leaks, maf health, and turbo + N75 duty cycle.
