195 65 R15 summer tyre replace standard 205 60 R15 tyres?

Featured Replies

Hi my car is Skoda Octavia II 2005 1.6 FSI, standard and existing summer tyres are 205 60 R15.  Currently runs on 195 65 R15 winter tyres. Feel 195 65 R15 is quite comfortable and softer, just wonder it is ok to change to use 195 65 R15 summer tyres as well, is this a MOT failure?

Thanks in advance.

Its fine, they're an approved tyre size for the car. They just need to be an appropriate speed and load rating (91V). Possibly 91H.

Can't see why not - virtually same rolling radius and if that size is OK for winter tyres it should be fine for summer tyres.

As Huskoda said, appropriate speed rating and load capacity are more important.

When I had some winter tyres fitted, I had a similar size choice.  Mytyres selector said I needed 205/60 R15 - Skoda handbook said either would be OK.  There was however a significant cost saving in buying the 195/65s, so guess which I fitted?

The 195/65 Continental TS850s have been fine and ride well.
