Fabia Door Seals Fix - Which Sealant Is The Best To Use?

Featured Replies

The prep is just as essential as the product you use. Make sure that you remove all traces of the original seal and ensure both edges are bone dry.

Oh I thought in that video he went over the old seal??

So your saying to scrape off all old seal... Sand down / clean surface than apply?

What is the drytime for it settle?

Thanks for the advice DM. I'll order another couple of packs of clips before I have a go and also get hold of some interior shampoo.

I've been waiting for a break in the weather for what seems like ages to get my car back into shape. It may be ten years old now but I still enjoy driving it and also I am far from being in a position to change cars at present so hopefully it has another few years in it yet.

I see your in Hereford. I'm about 3 miles from Hay-on-Wye where I've noticed a couple of MK1 Fabia vRS's recently.

These Fabias are fairly good if you look after them! Your Fabia sounds nice from your signature, has a lot of desirable extras!

Removing that small trim I would advise buying a cheap set of plastic trim removal tools, I bought mine from ebay and have served me well. Start at the edge which faces you .

If your passing through you are welcome to use them I live on Belmont road if you know where that is (mcdonalds/ASDA)

I had mine done at the dealers a  while ago now. By the looks of it they removed the old and used a low module sealer and only at the bottom in one place has it shrunk and let the water in. I just went over it all with plumbers gold making sure I put a healthy amount over the problem area that was letting water this time. Also covered the rivets and back of clips as per the pictures in the guide. Picture below from the guide (making sure you don't cover the 7 holes for the new clips).

Cheers Dan, if you have time can you post a link to the product on ebay. It sounds like a good thing to have in my tool box for now and the future.

Thanks Dan, very much appreciated.

For removing the front seats, you'll need one of these...

There's a place doing a longer one as well (which I have) which makes access easier. Be careful when putting the bolts back in that you don't cross thread them. I replaced the bolts when I had my drivers seat out to be on the safe side. These are the bolts you need if you want to do that... http://www.skodaparts.com/product/fabia-seat-bolt-2000-2008-23561

Thanks very much for that info. I'll make sure I'm ready before I attempt it.

How many mm is the longer socket and where did you get yours?

Thanks again, that's a great help.

No problem. I received so much help on here, the least I can do is stick around for when other need it.

Think it is just me being a duffus and not being able to find it again - but could someone be so kind as to link the Briskoda guide to sealing the doors? I have watched the YouTube video and read through my Haynes manual , I would just like as much information as possible before I start faffing with sealants.

Some links to a 'vrs-DIY. Com' or something along those lines no longer exist unfortunately.

Cancel that - after many more 'flood control activated wait at least 15 seconds until searching again' incidents I have finally found what I was after !!

Wish I had my laptop ...

Gonna link to it then?

Any sign of this problem on the mark 2 ?

I used Tiger Seal on all 4 doors of my 2002 Estate 3years ago and no leaks since.-  Touch wood!

I've just had a look behind the door cards of my 2004 vRS. The were sealed by the dealer (in warranty) about 8 years ago. They used the Skoda sealant (looks like black mastic). The mastic is still in good condition and no sign that it has leaked there since the original repair. They sealed all the way around the door carrier not just at the bottom and the sides. However, water was leaking through other holes so I have replaced all of the clips and sealed the remaining holes with Plumber's Mait mastic. This is easy to use, stays permanently flexible and has that advantage that it can be redone easily (it also has no horrible smell). The disadvantage with silicone is it is very very hard to remove if it has to be redone. I would have used the Skoda mastic as it has lasted brilliantly but it is over £40 and Plumber's Mait is cheap.

RE: seats - I cleaned mine with the rug Dr :)

There is a sealant -colorworks I think it's called, sets underwater,  I used a cheapy tube from the pound shop - works a treat - oh and buy new clips - they break

P.s check your drain holes too

Just be mindful whilst you are sealing all the carriers with indestrucable sealer there is a very real chance your window regulator will fail, and then you are really screwed.

The genuine skoda sealer, although expensive works and you can easily remove if applied as per the bulletin.

Well I have just done the nsf follwing a window reg fix,  used gutter / roof seal from Poundworld..... yes £1.00 a tube, enough for 4 doors easily up to now dry carpets
