Fabia Door Seals Fix - Which Sealant Is The Best To Use?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have the common problem of leaky door seals on my Mk 1 Fabia.

I have read all of the posts on how to do it but I was just wondering which is the best type of sealant to use.

I have already purchased Unibond Weather-Guard Outdoor Extreme Repair Sealant. I was just wondering if this would be sufficient enough or is there something else I can use.

Many thanks

That looks fine mate, try & dig out as much of the original seal as possible, its an easy enough job.

when I had the same problem with my mk1 leon I used 4mm butyl sealant tape, does the job and 1 roll can do all the doors

I have had excellent results using plumbers gold, as recommended by this forum.

+1 for plumbers gold

Thanks people for the recommendations!! I have just sealed up the O/S passenger door. Now I was just wondering if people had let the sealant fully dry while the door card was on or off. The sealant says that it will be fully dry in 24 to 36 hours.

I was just wondering what other people have done.

Cheers.

CT1 sealant is the stuff to use.

I need to do mine wen its dry...

Cheers mate!! Just put the door card back on. Fingers crossed it does some good.

Now I've found a small oil leak at the front of the car. Seems like it's one thing after another.

sorry to hijack, does anyone have a pic of the door seals and where exactly you need to seal

I just acquired my 2006 fabia vrs, no signs of any leaks.... how would i know if its been done or not?

Water sits on top of the rubber seal in the bottom of the door opening & there may be white marks on the bottom of the door cards if its not done mate, thought mine was ok til we had some of the downpours this winter, pulled the cards off expecting a failed previous attempt maybe but they'd never been done.

Which is the best how to for this?

Try this mate or there's plenty of threads on here about how to do it.

Getulus, you the man bro thanks for the video..... Mine seems ok for now but I will go over the rears once the weather warms up

Tiger seal here i come :D

Plumbers gold is epic stuff. I've done 3 out of 4 doors now with success, gonna do the last door when I'm next free

I'm sorting mine out now with plumbers gold. Has anyone had to do the fronts also? How difficult is it to strip the doors down with the added controls in the doors?

Any tips as I'd like to get it done while we are having this good weather. :)

Also any tips for cleaning seats as mine are looking very grubby with the added black spotty mold growth due to the damp car. :(

Fronts ain't too bad, I'd buy some spare clips as they will break. Honestly they will break utter plastic ****e.

To remove the fronts, there are 3 torx screws at the bottom of the door card, 1 torx behind the tweeter blank cover, then 3 screws behind the plastic arm rest (process of removing this is same as rears).

Autoglym interior shampoo is good stuff to use on the seats

Thanks for the advice DM. I'll order another couple of packs of clips before I have a go and also get hold of some interior shampoo.

I've been waiting for a break in the weather for what seems like ages to get my car back into shape. It may be ten years old now but I still enjoy driving it and also I am far from being in a position to change cars at present so hopefully it has another few years in it yet.

I see your in Hereford. I'm about 3 miles from Hay-on-Wye where I've noticed a couple of MK1 Fabia vRS's recently.

I used plumbers gold on mine too... no leaks to speak of for now. I put it on pretty thick after scraping out all the old perished rubber.

If you're still getting condensation after sealing the doors, these are great. Just pop them on the parcel shelf, or in the door pockets.

I barely ever have to demist the windows now... they work really, really well.

Excellent, I'll grab some of those for sure when I'm all done.

Another thing that is really annoying me is all the debris down the side of the seats that I can't get to. Has anyone ever removed their front seats for a proper clear out and if so what tools would I need, how easy is it to get them out and more importantly back in place. :)

I had a quick look at the fronts. Not so easy to get the smaller top part of the armrest off. I started to get a few chew marks so gave up for now. The back one's seemed easy compared.

The prep is just as essential as the product you use. Make sure that you remove all traces of the original seal and ensure both edges are bone dry.
