STS unit for Octy vRS question

Featured Replies

Apologies if ive posted this in the wrong place but Im wondering what people would value a second hand STS unit at that I purchased from Shark as I am now sadly moving on from Skoda so have no use for this unit now... Have to say its been superb thanks to Ben at Shark. The immobilisation map and factory settings map are incredibly useful.

What do you guys think?

my guess is that you are not a freedom member & this is a lame attempt to circumvent the £12 membership ;)

Yeah I can see where you are coming from. Promise you that's not my intention just trying to get an idea as I would rather sell this somewhere with a price rather than with risk giving it away on the bay. Any suggestions would be welcome. Cheers Mark

There's one on eBay at the moment - clicky - so you could watch that and see what it goes for.  That guys advert says the buyer will need to buy a remap from Shark because the original remap is linked to the car it was originally used on, which seems quite sensible.

Typical, I bought one new last week and now 2 used ones come along at once.

You might want to ring Ben and check what the STS unit can currently be used on before you advertise it as when I asked about remapping my CR vRS before christmas he said it wouldn't work with the latest encrypted ECU fitted to my car. It might do now but its worth checking to save you any potential problems when you sell it on irrespective of where you sell it.

Personally I'd want to know the unit was unlocked and erased before i bought it.

Yep, the car its been used with needs to be returned to stock mapping, if the STS is to be erased and used on another car.

Vital to check this.

Yes I do remember Ben telling me this when I purchased the STS/ map. Thanks Wardy.

Now I've removed the performance map from the unit will I need to remove all of the maps from the unit before I send it on when my item ends?

If anyone can give me an answer by Sunday I would most appreciate it. I think the main thing is ensuring my car is set back to its original setting.

Thanks once again all.

Mark

Check with Shark, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Because you've reverted back to stock on your car, the unit knows that position.

It then knows it's 'unlocked' in effect, to allow the STS to be reset, ready for a fresh batch of maps for the new owner

That's what I recall Ben telling me when I purchased the unit from Shark so I'm happy with that. Thanks again Wardy. Letting go go my vrs is going to be harder than I ever imagined...

No worries, all should be well now then. What are you swapping to?
