pd160 intake alternatives

Featured Replies

hi folks, i've been approached by a friend who wants to do this pd160 intake pipe thing, anyway being the cantankerous old scrote that i am i said to him "don't you dare spend £150 on a piece of plastic pipe", anyway i'm a bit of a lateral thinker and a seasoned modifier so there must be an alternative solution to it thats super cheap, it wouldn't be that hard to make something the same shape from aluminium.. either that or i'm thinking about bypassing the slam panel altogether or using some plumbing parts from b&q to do it... cut a hole in the bonnet? what has everybody else tried?

cant find a clearer pic.. but thats a £25 alternative to the pd160 intake.. credit to Joe for doing it 1st and pointing me in the direction of the parts in ebay ;)

Basically a universal funnel that i attached to the front panel + a flexi pipe. The pipe can be fitted to a normal airbox because its flexi but dont know how neat because it will be a round pipe in a square/ rectangle hole..

stole Joe's pic of his from his build thread lol :D!!

Clearer pic than mine + shows it with a standard airbox :)

Found something online ages ago where a guy heats up somekind of piping and the forms the shape using blocks of wood.

never tried it myself though.

^^ that's brilliant, exactly the kind of thing i'm looking for, home made alternatives.. i can remember when the pd160 pipe was about £15 from the skoda dealer back in the days i owned a fabia, it all comes down to supply and demand i guess? i'm damned if i'm going to let him pay the full price tag for someting like that

Somebody on here went to a plastics company to see how much it would cost to make but i dont think there was an outcome.

i keep looking round local scrappies for an ibiza cupra in the hope the guy doesnt know how much they go for.

there's one in parts for sale for £75 inc postage. Ok, that'll be bought not bodged though ;)

£13 off eBay but it is maybe abit overkill as it's 3". Didn't need the trumpets or brackets either

It def looks better with the trumpet.. also more effective use of the airflow

Just a wild guess, but would the PD130 pipe fit? I think it might be a fair bit cheaper and easier to fit and no-one will know if there's any difference if you keep the bonnet shut  :giggle:

It's going to have a trumpet on I thought it would be routed different but it's too big so I will order one at some point

Another one for the JP160 intake :) lost count of how many times I've posted this picture now ha Posted Image

And I never get tired of seeing it ;)

Just need a fat arse FMIC there now Tom!

Already acquired a Gert big intercooler from a Mercedes van to use, it's not my car, I don't think I could live with the common problems that a fabia exhibits any more tbh.

i think he was talking to this Tom, Tom lol ! ... Clutch is next on the list unfortunately dan :( although it's going in to get the torque limited so I'll see how the clutch hopes up then :) then it could be intercooler time !
