apexi turbo timer....

Featured Replies

A good friend last night gave to me an apexi turbo timer..

But I'm not sure how to fit it, it has red, green, blue, grey and black wires but how does it get wired in?

Leave it in the house pile of poo lol

And the reason for this?.... at the moment I guess how long to leave it ticking over as to how I've been driving it

Not really worth using with water cooled turbos. Just don't thrash it and switch straight off

Its not for cooling the turbo. Water cooling has nothing to do with it. Its so you don't cut the engine oil feed to the turbo till the compressor stops spinning. If you drive hard and switch off the engine without giving the turbo time to stop spinning you cut the oil supply and damage to the bearings occurs causing failures.

As the others said-just take it easy for the last few minutes of the journey and drive off boost or sit and idle for a minute after you get to your destination.

There is no point on fitting this, as Clive points out in post 2 they are simply just not worth it. Fitting it will invalidate the Thatcham approval on the immobiliser and as such you'll have to notify your insurers that you have fitted a device that allows the engine to run without keys.

The Octy vRS is no performance car, and will not benefit, we have plenty of members running remapped cars running without a turbo timer, and very few if any reports of turbo problems.

It is a performance car when you start to get up stage 2, it has already taken a few performance motors by complete surprise

I wont bother fitting timer, I always let it idle for atleast a min when I stop no matter how hard ive driven it

And I also don't like the idea of bypassing the immobiliser

Advice taken cheers

You don't have to by pass the immo. as its only used at start up. Insurance is an issue yes and legality is also an issue. The wiring will be Red +ve black -ve. Then 1 will be ignition in, 1 will be handbrake (so the car cuts out if the hand brake is released) and 1 will be ignition out. Not hard to fit had a blitz one on my old octy great if the missus drives it and gives it a thrash saves the turbo. Only down side was if you wanted to leave it running down and walk away you had to lock the car with the key. Try this link http://www.apexi-usa.com/manuals/electronics/timer_wiring.pdf

Sell it and by the mrs some flowers, you'll benefit more from that

Waste of time and money.

By the time you've got where your going it will be cooled enough to switch off...
