Things to affect mpg

Featured Replies

There's either something wrong or you are driving it too hard all the time!

I get a calculated 45 - 55mpg on mine depending on journeys.

Yesterday 32 mile round trip on a roads gave 70.6mpg - probably more like 60mpg. Too many slow people and not enough space to get by.

  • I'd remove the EGR valve to see if it's clogged up. Can drastically affect MPG if it's clogged up!   I made a guide on how to remove it to clean it!   Here

  • They seem like they are sticking a bit yeah!

  • This!   Someone the other day was asking me how the hell I got an indicated 80mpg on the obc then started going about how he lost an audi RS something in the bends the other day..

I get 50ish on a run, 40ish round town. Neither are hanging about, been the same kind mpg since I've had it over 5 years now, no issues I just dont drive particularly economically most of the time. If I drove with mpg in mind I could add another 10mpg to both them figures, the biggest single thing that affects mpg is the driving style

Indeedy doody there is something not as good as your mpg!

My record mpg on the trip computer is 54mpg and thats going 55mph using 5th/6th without any stopping (driving steady)

Noticeable things are that starting the car can sometimes be very - not rough as such but sudden - erm kinda "explosive"? Not as smooth as my golf pd engine was. Shakes the car quite a bit.

There is always a bit of a whoosh/whoooooo noise about 2000revs which is extended/louder if driven hard. Dealer has replaced intercooler seals and when the car was remapped they said they found no serious boost leaks.

Would the intake manifold be much of a problem at 80k miles?

Just done Cambridge to Notts @ 57.4mpg. Usually to and from work (twisty A's) sees 48-51mpg ish.
