Elegance Handbrake

Featured Replies

When I ordered my Elegance about a month ago for delivery end of Oct 05 I understood the standard Elegance spec included a leather gear ****, gaiter and steering wheel. The leather handbrake grip was in the brochure as a dealer supplied

I can't beleive the word K-N-O-B was automatically censored in my last post

You'd think this was a US site or something.

I thought leather gear "lever" and hanbrake were standard on the elegance.

I've just picked up an elegance octy, and the leather steering wheel, gear k-n-o-b and gaiter + the handbrake grip, were all fitted as standard.

Good job you don't live in s****horpe :)

Late June 05 Elegance - has leather handbrake, chrome and leather gearknob

I got my elegance at the end of July and it has leather wheel / k nob / and handbrake.

The steering wheel seems to be made of a different grade leather to the rest of the items though.

That wheel is one of the nicest I've ever gripped, great feel to the leather

Was there anything else you guys expected or didn't expect to get with your elegance but were surprised/dissapointed when you got the car.

During the three month wait I practically memorised the brochure so knew exactly what I was getting! :D

I expected the CD player to show the CD Text ie Artist and Album rather than just CD Track 01.

I also expected the cruise control to not try and kill me, cruise control on, squeeze the accelerator whilst overtaking I expect the CC to disengage, lift off the accelerator as the cars in front have slowed down and the CC kicks back in again and starts to accelerate

I'm fairly sure in other cars I have driven with CC it switches off if you touch the brake or accelerator.

If you touch the brake if traffic slows then the cc does disengage, you then use the 'resume' rocker switch on the indicator stalk to resume your set speed.

The cc function whereby it resumes automatically is great, your cc'ing at 80mph lets say, you accelerate to pass another car , then lift off the throttle and the cc will let the speed drop to and stay at 80. (sorry officer I meant 70mph :D )

The first couple of times was a bit of a shock but I do agree with you that it can be useful, as long as you know it's going to happen!

So will this experience encourage you to RTFM next time? :P

The only "extras" I got on my Elegance were the other mudflaps! Otherwise it has all the goodies and more unless you need sat nav or other help with eating your boiled egg. Interested to find CD storage rack space alongside the boot autochanger. Also nicely hidden changer compared with Octy 1 vRS, and easier to load.

Surprised to find no floor mats at this level of trim. But at least the carpet is dark, not like the white fluff of the vRS - why do they DO that?

I have never dared use cruise around these parts - can see myself cruising straight up the exhaust pipe of a big truck. In May/June did 3210 miles mostly on cruise, in a Dodge Stratos in the SE USA - now that's what I call cruising! 6 lane interstates with 2 vehicles every 10 miles. Well, seems like it anyway. Not a bad old heap for a Yank car, but couldn't live with it over here.

Mine came with a set of carpet mats which weren't ordered. They aren't fixed though so I have to keep pulling the drivers side one back as it slides up the floor mounted accelerator. Could be nasty in an automatic if you press the brake and the mats press the accelerator down too

You can see the drivers mat making a break for under the dash in this pic

Well the golf does have damped grab handles where the Octavia does not. that really makes the Golf the better car
