EGR delete question!

Featured Replies

Ok ok i know what the EGR delete does and what it involves to fit a delete pipe, but i've been thinking, which is never a good thing!

So i can buy a Delete pipe and blocking plate, which repelaces my egr/shut off valve, and deletes the pipe to it. Whats to stop me just making a blanking plate and putting it inline on the egr pipe. So that valve block thinks its working/ doing its job but now, no reused gases are circulating. So my question is, what is the need for the pipe the replaces the EGR and shut off valve?

They say as there isn't a restricting piece (EGR valve actuator rod and anti shudder valve) and it's just a smooth pipe it increases power. Really doubt it does though :)

As above, It's a good low-cost option since you don't have to buy a race pipe or map it out. People just remove the EGR feed pipe and blank off the exhaust manifold and the EGR. It retains the anti-shudder valve on an ASZ engine as well.

Also I forgot to mention, EGR's can leak quite badly too losing you power!

Ok cool, thanks for the info, may have to give this a whirl. Although mine leaks oil like you said, from a small hole at the top of the valve block, so maybe a whole delete pipe is the answer for me.

I got that as well, it's normal apparently. I think it's recirculated oil from the crankcase breather system leaking through the EGR diaphragm.

Speaking of which, you'll probably do better and keep the engine cleaner by ceasing that re-circulation of oil. Search 'Elephant mod' on here. The EGR won't significantly soot up your inlet if it hasn't got oil to stick to. I've done this and not a drop from the EGR, I cleaned it at the same time and since then only a fine dusting of soot is present a year later.

ok i was just reading about that, i think i'd at least vent mine to a tank not atmoshpere though! cheers

The only concern is oil drips, which there wouldn't really be any.

A year later and never seen a drop on or near my driveway. It's mostly oil vapour, which is probably doing well to protect the underbody from rust  :giggle:

Some people shun the idea almost as if it's the Gulf of Mexico circa 2010 and you're BP.

Do you get any burning oil type smells when you come to a stand still, that was my reasoning for the catch can.

Otherwise all good

No you don't but it sometimes looks like smoke is coming out from underneath

Oil should never be burning in the crankcase, otherwise you've got big problems. It is a oil vapour smell though. If you buy a long enough hose you can route it under the car rather than into the engine bay where it wafts up and through the scuttle panel into the cabin.
