Right hand MFSW button install

Featured Replies

I've already got an MFSW with full telephone prep.  As I need to get the steering wheel recovered because my wife is allergic to the chemicals used to cure leather I thought I'd attempt to add the right hand buttons. Assuming no one has got a guide on whether this can be done then I'll post a guide on my findings.

So far I've ordered:

3T0959537C and 3T0959538F.  These are the left and right switches that have plugs for the DSG paddles.

3T0951527 and 3T0951527A. I don't need the first part as that's the same as the one I have but the up paddle is different when both MFSW switch sets are fitted as it plugs into the right hand MFSW buttons rather than the left and therefore has a shorter cable and fewer pins on the connector.

I've ordered both from http://www.cars-equipment.com/ in the Czech Republic. The pair of paddles were about 1/3 cost of just the up paddle had I bought it in the UK.  (I have no affiliation with this site)

Interested in this. It's annoying getting into the fabia after the octy. Is this the 2013+ wheel you're doing?

I've just had a look and I would go for these as a first guess: http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/steering-wheels-accessories/oem-5e0919719b-steering-wheel-buttons-switches/

It looks like you'd also have to change the up paddle to a 5E0951528 as you'll currently have a 5E0951528A.

These are GUESSES though as I don't have a wheel to look at.

Fitted the buttons today. They sort of work BUT I have lost voice control. The left hand volume roller press now either mutes the radio or switches it off when held. The telephone button on the right side selects the telephone menu or redials the last number if held.

I have done some recoding with VCDS but I can't get voice control back.  I put the original buttons back in and set the VCDS coding back to standard but the old press and hold the volume button to voice dial now dials the last number.

I've searched all over to try and find out how to enable the voice control with either the original (which did work) or my additions.

Once I've got it working I'll post a load of pictures and instructions.

Having had another go this morning I've now found that I can either have just the left hand buttons and voice control or both sets and no voice control. Even using the original buttons, as soon as I plug in the right hand set the voice control disappears and pressing the left hand volume control either mutes the radio with a short press or switches the radio off with a long press.

I'm fairly happy as the right hand buttons make all the Maxidot functionality a lot easier to operate and I don't make phone calls from the car very often.

I didn't get time to take photos this morning but when I swap the steering wheel over I'll make sure I take my camera out with me.

Tbh I haven't used voice control in this or my previous car, I would like maxi dot control on the wheel rather than the stalk though.

Look forward to the pics.
