Hi guys

 

My 51 octavia vrs is giving me problems with its temperature guage.. its got a mind of its own :wonder: .. so i start the car from cold sometimes it works sometimes it dont.. then say i turn it off for a quick run in the shop when im back out and start it up.. no temperature guage.. sometimes it will work after switching it off sometimes it just dies till the cars cold again..

What problem am i looking at? Faulty temperature sender.. Air lock in the cooling system..? :think:

Sounds like the coolant temp sensor.  Get a new one from a SKoda dealer, dont get the ebay clones.

As above, get it sorted asap as your fuelling could be wonky as well, it's dual switch which controls the ecu as the dashpod.

Now that you mention it some days its slightly better on fuel then other days, i get about 14 miles to 10 thats a mix of smooth driving and giving it the beans here and there.. im guessing that having a nackered air flow meter wont help either..

Signal to cluster, and also to ecu and based on the signal the ecu receives,,, the ecu adjusts fueling ect.. quite an important sensor really.

 

Top tip from me - when you buy it, you want the sensor, O ring (rubber), and plastic retaining clip because the one on your car may well be brittle and snap like mine did 

And 14 miles to a tenner??? 

I'm getting around 40 miles to ten and that's spooling up inbetween

Yeah now that you said that.. sometimes when i start it 2nd time round even if its at full temp when the guage dont work somtimes the choke wil come back on lol

This one is only kicking out 210 at most and it sucks fuel like a straight 6 M3

Been there with the straight 6 ///M' s lol.. had those lumps in my e30 and round town she was thirsty as hell! 

Will get a new sensor for it tonight  

I have one you can have for free inc seal, if you don't mind the drive to halesowen, save's you a few quid ? I will have to try and find them in my garage once i get home.

Anyone confirm topran did an oem cts.

The one I can find Has topran 109 385 marked on it.

I'm sure I got it from skoda, but unsure about the markings looking at it now.

exact same problem with mine. normally if I turn off and start up again it stays off. be interesting to see if consumption improves
