Nipple Size!

Featured Replies

Hi!

Can anyone tell me what nipple size is on the brake calipers (originally wrote disks..idiot!!!!)? Need to bleed my brakes  as I am an idiot and so buy a piece of tubing to do so.

Also what the standard nut is on them to undo the nipple?

Brake calipers*

Pipe wise just some pipe around 4mm would do, washer pipe would do.

11mm is the size of spanner / socket required for the bleed nipples.

Make sure to use an opened ended ring spanner so you dont break the nipple in the caliper!

You can use a normal one of course, but better safer than sorry!

That is a flare nut spanner primarily for using on flare nuts (fluid pipe ends), apart from that, I'm curious to know how that stops you breaking the nipple.

I tend to wire brush the area round the thread, apply some brake fluid to use as a release oil, wait half an hour for the fluid to creep down through the rust/dirt, place a hex ring spanner on the nipple and carefully loosen it off a bit, retighten and wire brush the dislodged crap off the area round the thread. Now you are ready to bleed that calliper, remember not to over tighten the nipple or it will snap off next time!
