Wing mirror cover removal

Featured Replies

Hi how easy is it to remove the wing mirror plastic cover?

Is it easier to remove the wing mirror complete?

Many thanks

Just did this yesterday.

The lower rear edge has two tiny clips behind it. Pull the part towards the rear if the car and hold the top rear edge of the mirror cover.

Give it a good yank upwards and it will come off vertically with some stubbornness and then a sudden release.

Getting it back on is just as easy.

Im Being a mong so stand facing the back of the mirror looking at the cover and it should slide straight up?

Any pics

Thanks for the help don't want to break any thing if i don't like the look of the carbon wrap ones

No pics.

Basically your right. It's just the lower rear edge (below the mirror glass) that has two tiny clips that can be released with a little pull towards the rear of the car.

slimbo - you need to get the glass off first before you can remove the plastic cap (ie the mirror cover).  you don't say what age the car is? Mine's a FL but i guess the approach would be thesame for both pre-and post fl.

remove the glass, my method:  rotate the glass so it's as far "up" as it can go, put your fingers underneath and pull towards your self, should pop off.  try to spread your effort across the glass so you don't stress one point.   if you break the mirror you've pulled too hard.  ;-)

you should see the two torx screws holding the cap on - undo these, then you'll see two locating clips where the mirror cap locks into the metal base - push these out with a flat head screwdriver or trim removal tool/ whatever.   the mirror cap should then come off (pull upwards) leaving the indicator in place.

hth.

No torx screws on mine! Although I could see where one may be fitted if required.

Friction / clip fit was more than strong enough from factory.

Did see the two locating lugs to the outer edge of the mirror, but no way these were going to move even with prodding. They only seem to serve to guide the mirror cap into place as it's being refitted.

So, is yours fl, or pre? Maybe there's a difference. I tend to break anything glass, so if I can do it without pulling mirrors, that would be good...

Mines a pre-FL.

Tip the mirror forwards and inwards so the bottom edge and outer edge comes out then reach underneath and up as far as you can.

Pull from there, you'll be fine. It has quite a good backing on it.

Just don't pull the very edge of the glass as it may start to separate from the backing pad with the heating elements it is stuck to.

If you need them, check out my gallery for photo's i took when I changed mine (2012 FL) using rob_e's description.

I have to admit to breaking a clip on both of mine but i think i got a little impatient.

My project over the weekend. Your car looks awesome with the black mirrors, is your roof painted too? Or wrapped?
