Elegance Build week 12

Featured Replies

We have been given a week 12 build for our new Elegance.

Pleasantly surprised!! :hi: , much quicker than we expected we only ordered it on 2 Feb, .

Not sure if that is fixed or how long it takes to arrive after that but we are looking forward to it

My mind is boggled... Ours is a week 10 build. Ordered first week of September 2013. At least we may get ours first ;)

U jammy sod   We ordered ours end of November and our build week is Week 11.

There doesn't seem to be any logic  :wall:  to how build weeks get allocated.

Wow order mine mid Jan and havent got a build week yet!!

I ordered my Elegance on 30 December and have been allocated week 12. I'm allowing 3 weeks between build and collection.

It really is weird how these build times vary. I am sure some computerised system somewhere knows why

Looks like I have ben lucky, I felt a bit guilty there for jumping the queue..... but it didn't last long

Ordered a new Elegance on 16th February 2014 and dealer informed us that the car will be built in week 12/2014 and should be delivered to us by week commencing 14th April 2014.

It seems that build is model dependant and depends on the level of options required.

Mike.

Several reasons:

Model quotas - both in terms of build volume and sales

Options (if any)

Country allocations

Dealer Allocations

Parts shortages/supply limits

Pre-allocation of certain builds

There is a logic to it - just doesn't seem like it.  Car plants are designed around a theoretical build pattern - say 40% "S", 40% "SE" to 20% "Elegance", with a 3/5 door split to be no more than 60/40.  Sunroofs might only be able to be built 1 car in 4 (one of the biggest deciders).

70% of people order 5 door Elegance models with a sunroof (unlikely, but for example) - they can only build these 1 in 5 at best, so get scheduled at that rate.  As a result, "other" spec cars get pulled forward to fill the other 4 slots, and the time for the 5dr Elegance becomes 16, 18 or 20 weeks before they can all be built.  In the meantime, even more are ordered, but this time without sunroofs so they juggle some of these new orders inbetween the existing ones to allow some 3 door SE models..

Have I lost you yet?  I did some work in a Final Assembly Sequencing Office some years ago and it's a constantly changing nightmare.  Painted bodies might get pulled straight through, or sit in the store for weeks, waiting for a slot.  You do need a crystal ball..

Not sure about that, we just ordered an ASG Elegance with only the PID option back in November and we were given build week 11.

Only thing I can think of they might have shut production down over the Xmas period to neck some Bierkellers!

I'm just glad we aren't in any rush for the car.

Woah, Phil!!! It makes some sort of sense now.

I missed out a possible ASG build requirement - don't know if they can only do 1 in "X" of those, or they aren't a problem.  I'd hope it's only an order (parts) allocation problem based on ASG build quantities.

Worst case I saw was at the BMW Mini plant back when the Cooper S was originally launched - about 2001/2?  North American Spec cars had extra airbags in the roof, most came with sunroofs and they had the supercharged engine.  One of those components was a 1 in 5, one a 1 in 4 and the other a 1 in 6 build limitation.  One particular shift we had to try and build 100 of these cars out of a shift total of 247 cars - theoretically impossible (and was - had to slow the line down significantly for an hour or so to get them through which in a car plant is the cardinal sin).

As an aside, when wifey decided she wanted a 5dr Elegance with sunroof and ASG...the sales guy was honest in saying that it would normally be 16-18 weeks (it would include Christmas), but don't be surprised if it takes up to 6 months to get that spec built - for just about every reason imaginable (dealer quotas, SUK quotas - the Elegance was more popular than thought, and the extras.  Originally they were hoping to shift more 3dr S models (with the low headline price).

Hence we bought their 3 day old 5 door Elegance demonstrator with sunroof and ASG.  Parking sensors (the other requested option) were a dealer retro-fit and we got it within a week.  One extra owner - the dealer, and for just those 3 days and 5% off list was worth it in our case.
